Ideas for a ICT blog!

Hello there,

 

I have been given the responsibility to set up a (ICT Blog). I have some ideas to put in it. But I thought I would ask you on here. What could I put in the (ICT Blog)?

 

Here are my ideas so far:

Tips and tricks...

 

Are there any more which you guys can suggest?

Who has asked you to do it? Surely they have an idea about what they want to see on there.

It was our E-Learning director who suggested it to me. The down side was he asked me on the last day of term. I don't really want to wait for the 3rd September to get it up and running.

 

I was just after what would you put in a (ICT Blog)??

You could post ICT related info on events that are happening in the school.

 

Science week, exams, work experience, etc. post websites, videos, VLE updates.

 

Upcoming developments to the system - new PCs, software updates, etc.

 

System problems that you resolved - what went wrong, why, how you fixed it.

 

I suppose the big thing will be who you expect the audience to be - staff / students / both.

Best buys, special deals or offers that are avalible to them thay they might not know about. Notes about possible downtime in future, tutorials on new or difficult stuff to do with your system. New technology or advances that could be realivant to IT in education etc. are all good topics that could be included.

If its for students to access - when it eventually goes live get a group of students be "bloggers" and meet termly etc and ask them what they want to see and give them permission to add to the blog, if its students posting its probably more likely other students will logon to read.

 

Make sure it has sufficient and good content before it goes live - if its bare or boring people probably won't go back to it.

It is mainly going to be for the students. Thanks for the tips. I thought i might add a couple of videos like windows vs. Mac. I was also looking on the Intel adds. Put a couple of them in as well. As well what people have suggested. I also love the idea about students being bloggers.

Isn't this why we have a VLE?

Our "VLE" blog page is based around the latest news which affects students. We also have responses from event which students have been involved in. I also want this to be something which I can control rather than the "VLE Person.

I keep a journal for our sixth form further reading. It's a mix of cool interesting stuff, like this, background reading to back up their course material, bits and pieces of what I'm up to outside work (like my FOSS development) and collections of useful articles.

If I ever had to blog about IT, the main factor I would blog about are the life and times.

 

What do we actually do in IT

Why we are always deemed to be looking and browsing the internet

The backbone of our work, what happens behind the scenes

What kind of technical knowledge we have and need to constantly update

Why it takes 30 minute to-do something that is assumed takes 5 minutes, errors, problems, changes, rights, ownerships, permissions, compatiablity issues etc..

Same lines why it takes so long to put software on the system when can install it with in seconds on home pc.
