It's always better to get someone onsite... plans are good for an estimate but you just don't know how much radio the walls will absorb. You could get two of these too (CP and Net-Ctrl) to see how their minds work when it comes to placement

 

You've seen my place... thick sandstone walls, wire-mesh safety glass and awkward shape of one of the corridors meaning that I needed 7 (BlueSocket) APs on one corridor!!!

 

You could use the estimate from the plans to see if it's worth your while getting Net-Ctrl or somebody in to do a proper survey.

I agree with you there, but Net-Ctrl just had a not to scale site map and manage to show me where the access points would go. we kind of knew where we wanted them anyhow... but they got them placed spot on! :-)

Building plans will be fine as a starting point so please just send them over and we can provide a quotation to see if it is the area you had been considering.

 

One of the best ways is testing with the evaluation equipment we have so please let us know if you want to test some and we can schedule it in for you.

I can recommend all of that equipment, we have just had it installed here! Try ADA, they are a HP preferred partner and did all the installation.

equivalent ruckus kit would be Zone Director 1012, (or possibly the 1025 on Simons buy one get one free deal), with 10 AP's (20 on simons buy one get one free deal). bear in mind 10 APs covered my entire site including most of the field (8 acres!)

Geoff if the building is not all there then it is much better to start by working on the plans.

 

I think the first thing to do is make sure you are happy with the cost as the survey is only relevent to the solution you decide to consider purchasing, if you dont like what you see with Ruckus then you would need a survey with HP etc as the access points all perform differently and can provide very different results.

Trapeze has been a solid managed wireless solution for us here. I don't have the figures on what it cost but combined with Ringmaster software its very easy to manage and monitor. They came and did a site survey for us and took the site plans away and formated them for Ringmaster so if you add any new access points you can place them onto the plans first and see what coverage they'll give you based on walls etc. As for your network switches we've got cisco poe's here and they havent let us down but before we had a number of 3 com switches that were much more reasonable price wise and a treat to manage.

Very happy. I didnt get the buy one get one free either, I bought a 1012, with 10 APs and premium support package for a year. Best thing I did.

Mark is correct the deal is on for all resellers of Ruckus, The only difference is the pricing from each supplier on the parts you pay for , We seem to be the cheapest in the UK at the moment and this is feedback from customers,

Also from what I have seen, heard, the HP MSM solution isn't more expensive than the Ruckus solution, just to answer some other points that thought it may be. Also with the MSM and the WESM solution they are centrall managed so you don't have to config all points seperately. The 520 and the 420 are none centrally managed AP's hence the setup for people with these ones.

Ruckus is a lot more cost effective than HP and considering you require less AP's as the signal raidius is alot further with Ruckus Ap's

 

I suggest you pm staff here first and enquire about advertising before pm'ing members as spam from a unauthorised supplier is frowned upon on this forum and could get you banned!
