srochford Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 We have users who must be downloading most of the internet. They routinely download stuff at 1Gbit/s and have recently asked for an increase in their link to 10Gbit/s They must be sticking in an awful lot of floppy discs to cope with it all :-)

When you think about it, 20 TB is a hell of a lot of text. Wow! Just imagine backing that up to a tape... Its worrying that even this thread could be in one of google's backup servers.

If Google are only backing up 20TB - it's a tip of the iceberg.

That's not really a backup, it's like taking all the staff and students' work on your servers and storing it in text files regardless of the format. Useful, but not exactly a backup! 1
