Convert Mac Publisher files for use on a windows machine

We have a couple of pupils who have Macs at home and have created some homework files in the Mac version of Publisher. Is there a way to open/convert these so that our teachers can mark them?

I which kids had a clue about data exchange/file formats it was drummed in to us at uni!!!!

 

Stupid teacher should have asked for it as a PDF.

Perhaps I'm missing something here? Would it not be simpler to install Publisher for Windows?

 

The other suggestion offered should have been the one passed onto the pupils.

There isn't a Mac version of Publisher. Do you mean Pages, by Apple? If so get them to save out as PDF or .doc format.

I discovered that '7-Zip' installed on a PC will unzip a '.pages' file to a folder of same name and include a preview folder within which will contain the '.pages' file converted to a PDF format . . . . . . works great

BootCamp, VirtualBox, VMFusion, Parallels are some that spring to mind. I run XP and Vista on my MacBook quite happily either via BootCamp or Virtual Engine. Works really well - better than on most dedicated PC hardware IMHO. I even have Publisher (rubbish as it is) installed.

 

This board (as well as others) mentions this aspect of the platform's capabilities often. Perhaps you've simply forgotten?

No but with vmware fusion you can run it in unity mode and that allows you to run the applications like they are on the mac ( although had one issue with a bit of software made by fixya.com ) but pretty good other then that so far.

I know that we have plenty macs here. But for a student this may not be an option. They might not have an intel mac, Windows CD or office. They might not even have leopard to use bootcamp or have vmware etc..

open office ? Think works on both ppc and intel for both mac and windows - not sure about open office on the publisher front though ?

Doesnt have a publisher package in it. Plus these where not made on publisher anyway.

Not being too au fait with Macs I took the pupil's word as gospel when she said she'd created the document in the Mac version of Publisher, it now appears that the program she used was something else which possibly bears a passing resemblance to Publisher. I will have a word with the teacher who brought this to my attention so that we can confirm what the program used is.

Most likely iWork in which case the student needs to go to file -> save as and select a format that you can use on windows ie microsoft publisher or something else.

I repeat, '7-zip' installed on a PC, for the PC world. I did not imply installed on a Mac.

'7- zip' will unzip a Mac '.pages' file into a PDF format for use and or sharing in the PC world.
