Office 2003 to 2007

Hi,

 

2 years ago we purchased 100 office licences. They were office 2007 licences. I choose at the time to go down the route of 2003. We have a 2003 volume licence code. What I was wondering as we bought office 2007 could we just go to our supplier and get office 2007 media and volume licence code at minimal cost?

So long as your Office 2007 licenses cover the machines you want to install it on without leaving you short on Office 2003 licenses - yes all you need is the media (£15 ish) from your supplier and a VLK from M$.

More to the point, how will you prepare everyone for the "joys" of the ribbon? We're in the same position as you and have held off installing 2007 for a couple of years. Has it now reached critical mass in terms of how many kids and teachers have it installed at home I wonder...?

We're licensed... installing it on all the new teacher laptops now and seeing what the general reaction is. Will push for it to be installed everywhere after we've seen how well it's received by staff.

 

Would still be interested in any experiences anyone has to share though.

We're in exactly the same situation here.

Brought 2007 licences a few years ago and the head now wants the whole school to move to office 2007.

 

I have an hour session on the first day back in September to teach them everything they need to know so any resources available would be greatly appreciated.

When we started down this road last year (the thread is somewhere) we learned two things:

 

1) make sure staff are involved in getting ready for the change, and more importantly - make sure they feel they are involved!

2) get as many opportunities for practice and training in before you actually do the deed. For example, we set the staff room machines up with 2003 and 2007 side by side for a whole Summer term so they could get used to using 2007 without having their crutches taken away.

 

With much crossing of fingers, it went really quite smoothly (aside from flat refusal from one member of staff, and much cursing from us when staff started asking "how do I do x?"!)

I've held off doing this, becuase we would have to buy all office 2007 licenses because we don't have any at the moment, all ours are 2003 - the last batch were brought shortly before 2007 came out looking back at invoices.

 

I'm trying to steer the school towards Open office, and our new director of learning for ICT is also a big open source fan, so I'm hoping we can hold off until the next release of office, which must be due in 2010/11 before we'll have to buy any licenses at all, and even then it may only be for admin and staff machines.

I really couldn't get on with Office 2007 but think it's about time I gave it another try.

 

As above, can anyone recommend/provide any resources?

 

I can probably pick it up myself but I'm thinking of others.

I came across this the other day. I haven't had a chance to look through it all (and some of what I have seen is a bit cheesy), but what I have seen seems to explain Office 2007 (or at least the Word part of it) quite well. You have to register, but no one has bugged me yet (3-4 weeks later)

powdarrmonkey's right, you've got to carry the staff with you.

There are some absolutley fantastic resources (flash files) which you can distribute, which have an office 03 screen, you click the particular part/menu/button in office 03 and it tells you what and where the new function is in Office 07!

 

I plan to use this when we hopefully move over in the summer!

Plans made up today.... We're giving a questionnaire to all the teachers who have 07 on their new laptops to see what areas we need to pay attention to when deploying it accross the entire system. At the moment considering having department heads train their departments up in it rather than us lot do it for a load of people. We could also run a few twilights on it as well as providing all the online resources for them.

We're keeping Office XP available on "select machines" in the interim while people get used to using a non M$ product. Also some feature of Office 2003 (Outlook and Publisher) will be on even fewer "select machines".

 

Staff have been "warned" and we go live in September.

We're installing OO alongside but it'll be kept well separate, ICT want to use it to show alternative software suites for some of the GCSE work and also looking at open source software.

 

Open Office is becoming more common at home for a lot of the kids but at the moment we'd much rather stick to MS Office, more comfortable with it.
