HP2600N Heads up

Bit of an issue with this printer recently, so thought I would share my experience with you all

 

1. if IE7 is installed on your machine you will need to update the firmware on the printer.

 

2. I can print to the printer perfectly from the 2003 server but I can't get any of the XP machines on the network to print via the printer share.

 

solution found using google

 

"The LJ2600 is a cheap 'host-based' device, which doesn't understand traditional Page Description Languages (PDLs) like PCL5, PCL6 and PostScript; it needs special host-based 'JetReady' drivers.

 

I think that these drivers make use of two-way communications to function correctly, and this is probably the crux of your problem.

 

I have seen reference to switching off 'bi-driectional communication' in the driver allowing such devices to work via servers, but I can't vouch for this."

 

This has now fixed the issue. If anyone else is have the same issue then I hope this helps

Any links... Just for future reference.... IE7 everywhere here and not had any problems with these printers.

I'm in the process of trying to cleanout three of these because the toner leaks everywhere and they are wanted to print school reports. Bl**dy things!!!

Can't say I have had this trouble. We have four 2600 series printers all working fine along side IE7.

 

I'll lock that in the 'I remember somebody saying something about that' bank in case it comes up in future. Cheers

As with terrorvis - no issues with the 2600n - other than Vista/2008 Drivers..

Using win7 here with the Vista drivers for the 2600n ..

We have 6 or 7 of these and run IE7 and no issues reported up to now. I guess we have just been lucky and the printers came with the latest firmware on them when I bought them.

We had a 2600, worked as long as you turn off the bidirectional printing thing. Not a fan of it really, so now the HT has it in the office

For the record,

 

Are you using genuine HP toners or pattern parts/refills?

 

As an ex Canon/HP engineer I have seen good refills and diabolical ones.

 

I have had HP/Canon printers all my life and have never used a "moody" cartridge ever!

 

I have NEVER had a mechanical failure either.

 

The one time I used refilled ink cartridges in an Epson I had, I came home to find it had dumped the entire contents over the living room carpet!

 

Worthy of another thread/vote but personally I hate refills!

We've had 4 or 5 here, they've worked OK as local printers but didn't like being setup as network printers with the driver installed on a print server. If memory serves HP said they were not ment to be set up that way and if used as network printers had to have drivers/ports mapped individually for each workstation that was to use them.

 

I say had as we found that they misreport the printed page count, to our print accounting software ( Equitrac ) eg a windows test print page gets reported as a few thousand pages ( I'm guessing it's reporting bytes as pages ) Because they completely skewed the print accounting figures we finally ended up replacing them.
