TwoZeroAlpha Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Additional - a shot of our front of school screen setup Top left - Clock (flash file) Next to that - Text on a cycle (Welcome to - $School Name$) Lower left - Powerpoint about the school (static info) dynamic content, and BBC news RSS feed Top right - Slideshow (blurred in this photo for child anonymity) Bottom right - AlexB's excellent SkyNews feed with modified background colour to fit in Haven't fiddled with it in ages, but might add some more images and text content this afternoon.
maniac Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 (edited) Just been playing around with this today, as we have 4 screens going in at the moment. We were just going to run Powerpoints on them, but this seems to fit the bill perfectally for controlling them, it even runs on the old tablet PCs we were going to use to control the screens with - perfect! I want to get BBC Live Video feed. I tryed the code from page 1 but it didnt work in xibo. It works when i just put in in publisher web-site but doesnt work on xibo. Could anyone help please.

ianniow Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Been using it for months now. Only thing which doesnt work as expected is I couldnt get the video to loop properly. So i just created a webpage with the video looping and embeded the webpage in the Xibo template. great peice of software, infact its the best digital signage software ive used, free or paid for. I think I am right in saying that this is a bug and the work round is :- add a text item to the region that contains the video. The text item should be empty and have a short duration (Maybe 5 seconds)

Created a new region on the layout then chose embed and copied and pasted the code from page 1. Check your default browser has all of the right proxy settings and that the iPlayer news 24 feed works in a browser on that computer normally.

I tryed this before but still didnt work. I pasted the full code in Embed HTML box not in Embed Script. Do i need anything in that box?? Thanks again for your support.

Please Reply Can you try another computer as the client? Preferably one that's not very similar to the one you're currently using. Also, there's some code in the embed script by default... I'd use linux as the back end, dead easy install in linux and less problems with uploading larger content to it - I had major issues on Windows getting the upload functions to work properly. The clients can be Windows XP, they are only looking at the server for content and it works no matter what OS the server is running, which is why I say go Linux for the server if you can. I have one gripe with Xibo, and that is it needs quite a powerful machine to run the client properly - any more than 2 moving areas of the screen and it grinds to a hault on some of my lower specification clients. The best bit however is being able to embed powerpoints - that way departments prepare their content for me in powerpoint, and I just tweek the powerpoint so it runs in a loop and upload it - simples! I'm running Ubuntu server and it hasn't missed a beat. Dead easy to install too, the guide on their site is pretty much all there. Will your old server support 2K8 with any degree of reliability? Yes, 1) Take the code from AlexB's post (#15) in this thread 2) Paste into notepad 3) Save as bbc.html 4) Upload to your webserver via ftp (usually to a user's homedir) 5) SSH to your webserver and copy the bbc.html file to the website folder (/var/www/ under ubuntu) 6) Not tested without this step but.. chmod the bbc.html file to 755 7) Log into xibo and go to the edit page for your layout 8) Choose the area you want and enter the webpage link as http://$yourwebserver/bbc.html 9) Enjoy If you're having an "argh this still doesn't work" moment 1) Verify you can view the http://$yourwebserver/bbc.html page independantly of xibo by using IE or $browser on the client PC. 2) If you can't check the webserver is excluded from the proxy settings (although if it's not xibo shouldn't work) HTH 1

It loads put just with the html file but when i put it in xibo it doesnt work :s is there anything else? Thanks again

What i did was copied the BBC.html, put it in the client pc C:\ drive and put that location in Xibo Server and it worked. So happy. Thanks again. How can i get rid of the blue screen? and the bottom stop, 03.13 / Live bar? i just want to show the news. any sujetion?
TwoZeroAlpha Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I can't find anything in the code to remove the status bar, so I don't think that's possible. If you're desperate for news with no status bar it can be done on the sky news version. As for getting rid of the blue bits, my only suggestion is to play with the height and width constraints in the HTML code to make it fill your area. default is 512 by 288, although making it bigger will probably not increase the size of the video.
