penfold Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Try restarting the client, otherwise you will need to wait for the next time the client checks for updates.
2097 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Try restarting the client, otherwise you will need to wait for the next time the client checks for updates. how often does the client checkin ? i keep restarting the client ( cloising with alt-f4)
glennda Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 how often does the client checkin ? i keep restarting the client ( cloising with alt-f4) its in the client settings - I think the default is 900 seconds or 15 mins 1
2097 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Btw i am using windows7 to run the client software after i ALt-F4 the client . it says this program has caused a error . I also had a test server 2003 which i run the client software on and it said the same thing
2097 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 changed the update to 3 secs . I opened the client then closed it after 10 secs and then it recieves updates Many thanks for your help !
2097 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 has any one found out to put on 'uploaded content' manualy. I would much rather just drag and drop files into the library .. But im asuming i have to edit some bits in SQL to do this ?
glennda Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 If you look back up the thread you will see a way in which people have done this - i think using a Windows Media Playlist and a script which automatically creates it from the contents of a folder. The other thing is look through the Wiki on the Xibo site - there is lots of information in there. Toby
2097 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 thanks for that heres what i nocked up quickly using one of the background templates located in this thread . basically just to give the head an idea on what it will look like http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/6384/imageodj.th.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us
cjw1903 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 We are looking at getting this here just trying to work out what sort of pc we'll need what are all you guys using? was thinking of using an Intel atom + ion2 based machine
glennda Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Yeah thats what i would use - We currently use the HP dc7800 Ultra slim but only becuase we had them spare. Something like the Acer revo would be fine for the client (depends of you are hosting database on it aswell)
cjw1903 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 We would be looking at running the server side of it on this machine too, does that make much of a difference?
glennda Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 To be honest probably not - mine runs with little or no effort - it is a vm that has 512mb ram and 1 cpu and doesn't do much so will probably run it fine.
MK-2 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 we have our client on an asus eeebox running fine. we also have a scheduled task set to run at 1am every night to kill the client, wait 10 secs then start it, just to make sure it will definitely pick up the latest files.
frosty Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 We use Veriton N260G's and Optiplex GX620's we also have a scheduled task set to run at 1am every night to kill the client, wait 10 secs then start it, just to make sure it will definitely pick up the latest files. I have to ask. Why do you have your clients running all night? Why not switch off at the end of School and restart in the morning? (just curious)
cjw1903 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Thanks for the replies guys. Think we'll go with an Acer Aspire Revo 3700
cjw1903 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hey guys got our new xibo setup up and running but I'm having a problem with .net framework its coming up with an out of memory error, I can see in task manager that Xibo is using about 1.4gb of ram, even if i close the xibo client is runs in the background eating memory until i end the process. Has anyone came across this or know a fix?

basicchannel Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) Hi, New Xibo user, and my moods are currently going from joy to frustration. Anyone have any idea why Xibo is now not showing any RSS feeds. I've completely stripped the template so it's just a background, added an RSS ticker and used the BBC's feed and nothing. Embedding a webpage and embedding a WMV video all seem to work. Feeds worked about an hour ago. Arrrrgh! UPDATE: Solved. Apparently removing the ticker region and re-adding solved the problem Edited April 1, 2011 by basicchannel Solved problem
Jamo Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Hi, New Xibo user, and my moods are currently going from joy to frustration. Anyone have any idea why Xibo is now not showing any RSS feeds. Apparently removing the ticker region and re-adding solved the problem I had a similar issue but mine was related to the fact I was using a PNG background. Changed to JPG and the problem went away :s Was a bit weird tbh! How are you finding it? Are you using the Python or .NET client?
garethEds Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Finally got around to playing with this software today even though we've had the server side installed using Xampp for over 3 months LOL. I like it - great value what with it being open source. My weekend reading is the user guide online, but for now can anyone tell me how to make things go on forever? I have to put a duration in for most things, but after a certain amount of time, my layout gets replaced with the 'Xibo Open Source Digital Signage Screen'. This appears for a while and then it all starts again. How long to you guys put in your duration? Is it simply a case of putting in enough seconds for 24 hours? Gareth
basicchannel Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 I had a similar issue but mine was related to the fact I was using a PNG background. Changed to JPG and the problem went away :s Was a bit weird tbh! How are you finding it? Are you using the Python or .NET client? .NET. It has its ups and downs TBH. I have been tempted to scrap it and just throw a load of money at Navaho or the like; have them do it all for me. But when I think how much money the school could save (and it could look good on the old CV - a scenario where I saved the school £££s) and the lack of excitement I got from these incredibly expensive solutions I go back to Xibo. Regarding PNG backgrounds; I tried using one the other day and it worked OK. However, when I tried loading an RSS ticker over it it loaded up fine but the region area had this awful lime green background. Switched the BG back to a jpg and it was fine. Whats the python client like?
DJ-Jonesy Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 im currently testing xibo at the momnet and all is well so far but, ive embeded the code for live bbc news it works fine but only on 1 client. All the rest just say not possible to view this content? and on another note, when i resize it in the code it becomes very jumpy it only seems to like being at 395x640? any ideas on how to get it smaller and running smoothly? Thanks Dan
penfold Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Check by playing the bbc news staight on the client rather than through Xibo. The only time I had issues with a machine not playing live news was due to the internet browser wanting updates before it would play the stream.
DJ-Jonesy Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 got bbc news working all good now, But does anyone no of any flash or HTML weather updates sorta similar to the MS Widgets you can get nice looking and simple ones?
