What software do you use to make your jobs easier?

As some of you may know, I am trying to battle my workload. I have some money to spend to help, and I am very curious as to what software you use to help preform various tasks.

 

For example, what do you use to help manage network users, Helpdesk software, inventory management, anything.In an earlier post I was given a heads up on software that I had never heard of. I am thinking that this software will serve a great purpose.

I posted a script a few weeks ago and it took a full inventory of the network. Saved me bags of time. Ghost console saves us from visiting every machine to start ghosting. Diskeeper so defrags are not done manually. VNC so I don't have to physically go to a machine to work on it.

There is plenty of great paid software out there but there's also as much, if not more, that doesn't cost much or anything. I think you're approaching the problem wrong: instead of trying to find something that might help, what is it that you spend lots of your time on where software might help you take shortcuts? Is there anything you feel you waste a lot of time with, and what do you want to be able to do more efficiently?

Get some helpdesk software, it's an invaluable tool to help you manage you workload.

 

I can recommend myLittleHelpdesk (Written and developed by a member on here, can't remember who thou!)

ICTNUT develops it and price rises with anything are unfortunately inevitable.

 

There's so much work going into this project and the asset management side of the development as well.

 

Ozan himself has put thousands of pounds into it.

I can strongly recommend The Dude and Spotlight on Windows - both are free, and help us greatly with network monitoring/alerting and server status monitoring/alerting.

i know i have mentioned it before, but i wouldn't be without cleanslate, or some other 'freezing' type software, it just stops all the desktop problems, and you can then move your time to researching the next 'offerings' from microsh@ft etc

If you're looking for helpdesk software, I'd recommend you take a look at Web Help Desk. It really is excellent software and there is a free edition which allows one Tech user to use the software. There are paid for licence options too if you need more Techs, but the prices are very reasonable.

The site also has another product called LANrev which can tie in with Web Help Desk and allows you to automate the management of Macs and PCs... worth a look!

Purgos - remote control and software installs exe and msi. Not got ghost and no time to get my head round fog or ping - purgos is ideal for me.

Spiceworks is invaluable to me.

 

Covers Helpdesk, Inventory, proactive management by flagging up errors from AV, windows logs etc, tells you when printers are about to run out of toner, that kind of thing. Couldn't be without it.

Networking mapping will be in a near release.

ManageEngine for helpdsk and purchasing. I raise a PO in this then it emails my bursar she puts it into FMS then when the kit arrives it allows me to turn it into an assett for tracking has software scanning and remote control of machines. Cost £700 per year for 3 techs but worth every penny

 

the dude for network monitoring. This can give you bandwidth monitoring between L2 and L3 switches email or even tell you when theres a fault and its free. Monitors printers servers it is lacking is good documentation but once you get an idea of its usage very good bit of kit.
