matt40k Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 SIMS .net March '09 release is now out!! (You heard it here first!)
Sivadam Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Did you beat the announcement on Supportnet then?
Simcfc73 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Just installed it remotely... the new desktop looks pretty Very slow on my RDP connection, actually it crashed so lets see what happens on Monday
matt40k Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 @Sivadam Yes, I posted just before Jonathon Wood did, shame the SupportNet post doesn't have the post time. @Simcfc73 Didn't you read the notes first? Like the bit about the extra load caused by the new homepage?
matt40k Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 Sigh... Both. The page it's self it a little bit more weighier, however, if you in the Capita min spec you should be fine. The point Capita made was with regards to the homepage checks for updates on each of the fields every few seconds, ok, it's only like a few bits, but when you have thounsands of users it does start to add up.

Nice attitude you have there, not a man u fan are you? I am running it on a celeron 1ghz with 32mb of ram and a 300mb drive, hope I am alright.
matt40k Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 @Simcfc73 Yes, thin client or SLG2 user fine. Fat client, well, put the video of you waiting for it to load. PS: You might want to adjust your CPU - RAM\HDD ratio to something a bit more realistic.
sahmeepee Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I suppose I'll find out when we test it, but can a default homepage layout be specified yet? I know Capita were suggesting it would be possible to turn some homepage elements off by default in the future but I forget how far into the future that was going to be! Unless there are any essential new fixes in there I think we'll employ the usual "watch Supportnet for 2 weeks" approach before installing.
Little-Miss Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I am running it on a celeron 1ghz with 32mb of ram and a 300mb drive, hope I am alright. Surely that cant be right...
matt40k Posted March 21, 2009 Author Posted March 21, 2009 Yes you can add\remove stuff from your homepage, it's really is a good new feature, not sure about setting up a default homepage for your school. Something I didn't check... my bad. Back in the day, when SIMS first went .net, we had a Celeron, 128mb, 40gb hdd, running ok... assuming you didn't mind having a lot of tea breaks, which suited some of us
vikpaw Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I think from June update you can force panels onto the homepage for certain classes of user. And, it may even be semi-intelligent. So, if you force an attendance panel it knows heads of year see it for their year group, form tutors their form etc..
matt40k Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 Wonder what happens if your a head of year with a form group? Na, shouldn't happen, I guess it happens somewhere tho. Mmm... wait and see I guess. Can't wait for the March Installable, another new SIMSinst... hopefully with the ability to say where to install SQL 2005, and switches.
PhilNeal Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 You can have two pannels - one for the year group and one for the form. In fact as a HoY you might want a separate pannel for each form?
matt40k Posted March 22, 2009 Author Posted March 22, 2009 But what will it do by default automatically? Yes, the new homepage is great. Already had people asking about it, appears some of the Dec manuals etc didn't have all the new homepage features removed. I believe it was the attendance officer's at one of the high schools who wanted the missing regs. Just waiting for it to be intergrated into Outlook.
PhilNeal Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 You have to set the pannel attributes using the spanner.
THERADIOTUBBY Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Only updated last night and i'm sure its in one of the handbooks but ..... To set each users panels and attributes do you have to log on as that particular user or can you do it centrally
vikpaw Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Centrally, but not with March. That should come in June or so i believe.
woodham Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 anybody got a link to the ISO download please? I cant find it on Support net.
matt40k Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 There isn't one, I think, the March is going to be an installable media.
woodham Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 aaagh , just wanted to have a play on out test system Cheers Andy
matt40k Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Scratch that... SIMS: http://dl.capitasolus.co.uk/cdimage/SIMS2009MarchMain.zip FMS: http://dl.capitasolus.co.uk/cdimage/fms2009MarchUpgrade.zip 2
AyatollahPies Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Scratch that... SIMS: http://dl.capitasolus.co.uk/cdimage/SIMS2009MarchMain.zip FMS: http://dl.capitasolus.co.uk/cdimage/fms2009MarchUpgrade.zip I thought only Supportnet members could access these files?
matt40k Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) No, anyone can, but you need a current (valid) SIMS setups directory (and sims installation), otherwise it won't work. Installable media will have a password on. Edited March 23, 2009 by matt40k
Jamman960 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Centrally, but not with March. That should come in June or so i believe. Hmm, I was told that we could set it up centrally based on the staff members roles and was given the impression this would be functional from the march release - it'd be a bit pointless to start setting it up centrally in june once everyones muddled through and got their screens as they like them. This was at the Sims south east(independent) user group meeting last thurs.
