Last time I looked there isn't an interface to precache websites like there is on the educache boxes. I think it's a function that will be available in version 4 thats due out end of the month or next month though.

To be honest this is in look to replace our smartcahce as this has become quite expensive so any solution needs to do cahcing and not by wget it need web interface to precache even if uses wget in backend.

I have been running it for about 2 years now so feel free to ask any questions :D It is not without its faults but the new version should be released as a beta this month or very soon I think. This will have plenty of nice features which I think will get a lot more people using it.

The new version is touted to have pre fetch caching.

Oh well.. may give it a go when it's released then. The only thing our current IPCop setup doesn't do is the filtering by group/users which would be rather handy.

Currently you can filter by user or select the users according to their group to apply filter settings although the choices are filtered/unfiltered/whitelist only. I think one of the thing they are trying to do is filter by computer as most people will only have their groups arranged by year group. This is good for when teachers want just that class to be restricted to the whitelist etc.

The reporting facilities are excellent and are the reason I keep going back to it from my home brew box.

I will do a write up when I get my hands on the new beta.

Also the blacklist update is a pay for affair as apparently its in some special format :? but as a stock install it comes with a comprehensive list and the word filter gets virtually everything.

I have trialled the image filter a while back and hopefully its improved somewhat as it had trouble with thumb nails and it really didnt like people in wheel chairs

Looking forward to hearing all about this Beta, my primary children have mastered the art of loging on twice (once to the PC and then once for the net) even the 4 year olds! Yup I give them there own logons, aint I kind :D but transparent would be nicer.

So I take it CN is discriminating with the DDA regulatations then :D

Yes the class was researching Stephen Hawking and Christopher Reeves and it filtered loads of the images it was most bizzare
