The best thing to come out of RM is the ASUS laptop thing.

 

I am unsure of why anyone would want RM CC unless ofcourse you have idiots running your network as lets be honest a 5 year old could use that software. I prefer to have some control over what i am doing without the need for a bulky client.

Agree. Can't understand the people who've bought into CC3. I also prefer control over what I'm doing. Also, doesn't really help your career choices as it's strictly an edu product. An edu product for lazy. clueless admins.

 

We've bought from RM but only non-RM products. Apple, Real, ASUS Eee. I use them as a reseller of products i'm interested in not as a solutions provider. And wouldn't touch their own products with a bargepole.

I think it's a bit unfair to say it's the fault of admins who let CC3 into their schools. I know of several where the IT Guys were overruled by the Heads despite making lots of noise and the schools ended up with CC3 because their advice was not listened to.

Thanks, I do so enjoy being called stupid because I manage an RM CC3 network :roll:

 

I think you'll find it does take a small degree of intelligence to run an RM network.

People may not like RM networks (and that's perfectly acceptable - everyone has their own opinions), but they are in use in many schools whether you like it or not.

 

So please keep your small minded narrow opinions to yourselves and don't doubt the intelligence of your fellow techies! angry9:

Wouldn't of thought a hundred odd poster would be living under a bridge but that is all I can think of.

 

This has been gone over again and again and you may as well say any one using Windows servers are lazy as 'Nix is the only true way, or we should only use Mac stuff as anything else is obviously for clueless people as they can't work out windows is rubbish, etc etc.

What, are you going to tell on us Webman ? :wink:

 

Is taking the p*** out of CC3 any different from your objections to Apple and the OS X platform. Difference is people outside of primary and education use and abuse Apple hardware and software on a daily basis.

So any mac admin skills you have would come in handy if going for a job at a college, uni and in some areas of the corporate sector. Can't say the same about CC3.

The difference here is that you are being disrespectful to people who manage and work on RM networks. I only gripe about apple and their products - not the people who use them.

 

Just because we use CC3 does not mean we are incompetent idiots and does not mean we don't posess other valuable skills.

Unix, Linux, Windows and Macs are used in practically ever sector. Some more so than others. There can't be many that haven't implemented or are thinking about using solutions from the big 4. I'd also like to add that I'm keen on Netware as another option - and if you've got the money and business need ibm's i5/OS (AS400 to most people) and z/OS mainframes are also used by sysadmins all over the world. There's room for almost everything solution that has an operational benefit and it's up to IT managers and admins to choose the right solutions. Some companies might have an old JD Edwards ERP system and the advanced hardware partitioning capabilities and reliability of an iseries solution is why that is chosen. They choose a solution that in some areas is a clear advantage for what they're trying to do.

 

What does CC3 do that the current tools available to Windows system managers can't do. OR that can't be achieved by a bit of scripting.

 

and I would also argue CC3 is a niche that doesn't have a millionth of the significance of other niches such as z/OS so why the hell bother with it.

 

Good *nix admins have a right to feel smug and superior over windows-only admins. Similarly windows-proper admins have a right to feel superior to those who rely on CC3. Deal with it. If you're a *nix and CC3 admin you're a strange creature.

Gentlefolk.

 

A polite reminder to respect the abilities and choices of other members over how they run their networks and their choice (if any) of middleware.

 

Do *not* have a go at each other over the choices to run CC3, different OSes, different hardware.

 

Inform others that you have found solution x to be poor due to a, b & c so you now use solution y, or say that you find solution x to be good as it allows you to do d, e & f and any other benefits.

 

We should not have a go at one another about what people use when they make informed decisions about what is out there, only gnash our teeth when it is all due to ill-informed hype, commercial backhanders, pressure from people who don't know what they are doing or ill-advised politics.

 

This has been a polite request to all, not singling out any specific post.

 

Failure to follow this will mean posts may be edited or removed and members may be suspended. This is a community, people disagree but do it with some respect for one another. Personal attacks will not be tolerated

I admit it, I'm a shameless name dropper when it comes to talking about the products i like and have used.

 

I'll just say I'm glad and I haven't chosen CC3. I'm happy with what I work with, and what am planning to work with. CC3 isn't in our future plans

but it obviously works for you...so good luck to you. And buy an imac already!!!

I didn't single out anyone with that comment, so doesn't fit the term 'personal' although it is a generalization.
