Hi All,

Ok quick question, Ive been trying now for about a week to deploy Office Pro Plus Via MSI. Having spent nearly 2 days trying to find out how to get the software installed using the correct MSI off the CD () I now have office install! Hurray!

However having tested the application it needs the CD key inserting on each machine, this just won't do! I contacted a colleague of mine at another school and he tells me I need to edit the config.xml file and sent me a very useful link:

Config.xml file in the 2007 Office system

Now i've edited this file inserting the CD key and hoped it would all be sorted, however it still asks for the key! The original MSI is copied from the CD (the whole cd contents) and placed in a shared area on are server (the cd as it came). The MSI is a file called ProPlusWW.msi ( this took me a while to find as theres several MSI's on the disk) the config.xml file sits in the same folder as the MSI, Ive also tried i copy the config.xml file to the root setup folder!

has anyone got any ideas why this wouldn't be picking up its settings from this file!! I will be happy to paste in the file if anyone needs to see it minus the key of course!!

Thanks

Hi,

can't answer specific but there are a lot of problems getting office 2007 to install via msi/group policy.

Microsoft recommend manual install or as part of your machine image unless you have Microsoft SMS.

This is a pain - I have tried auto rollout at previous college with lots of problems - now got to do it again at new school over summer.

We have this working on the Enterprise version. The config.xml needs to be in the same folder as the setup.exe (i.e. the root, not the folder with the MSI in).

If you post the XML minus product key as suggested I'll compare to ours and see if anything stands out. Also, did you remember to strip the hyphens from the PIDKEY value?

HI

I have created a share and copied the cd to the server.

Then have run the setup.exe /admin

This creates a msp file that you have to copy to the update folder.

If I run setup now it thinks a bit and only asks one question do I want to upgrade and then it installs perfectly.

I have tried editing the config.xml file in the proplus.ww directory and it looks like this

I have tried to install but no joy. I get a error 1713.

I have tried copying the config.xml file to the root of the install directory and that does not work either when I run the proplusww.msi and I still get the error 1713.

Has anyone go any ideas what I have done wrong.

Thanks for all your help,

Richard

Hmm. Not sure what's going on now then. Only other thing I can think of is that I never ran the setup.exe /admin step as I didn't know you could (when we deployed there was very little documentation on GPO deployment - when 2007 first launched the docs actually said outright it was not even possible).

I just deployed straight from the original files. Not sure what implications that would have.

We have deployed 2007 Pro Plus via MSI just fine.

Here is the edited XML file (that is placed in the ProPlus.WW folder):

The MSI that is linked to is the ProPlusWW.msi in the ProPlusWW folder.

Good Luck
