Avalon Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 is anyone else experiencing a problem with youtube? all of a sudden we are receiving the message when trying to play a clip: Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player. I have checked IE settings which appear to be fine, and reinstalled flash player but still the same. any ideas?
sstar Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 ive been pulling my hair out about this for a while.. it seems to affect people randomly, yet if you go to a site with a youtube video on it works fine! ggrrrr ive been suggesting google video to anyone who has this problem as it searches youtube anyway
localzuk Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I got this when I updated from v9 to v10 of flash player a while back. Switched back and it works fine.
Avalon Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 we did have this at one point last year and upgrading flash player seemed to sort it. however, this time it is affecting all workstations and all accounts and cannot seem to work out why!
Andie Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I'm getting this too, but only somatimes on some staff laptops. Have checked Javascript is enabled and updated Flash again, although every other site working fine. Still no good. In the end, I installed Firefox and asked teacher to use YouTube through that, as no problem with it on there. Searched on the YouTube forums and there are lots of folk reporting this issue, but no one coming up with any solutions.
akidosaint Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Try ctrl +F5 in Ie a couple of months ago for a spate of machine clears the problem up nicely:) 1
Andie Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Try ctrl +F5 in Ie a couple of months ago for a spate of machine clears the problem up nicely:) Sorry - I should probably know this - but what does that key combination actually do??? Can't work out why it would fix this issue with YouTube.
Andie Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Sorry - I should probably know this - but what does that key combination actually do??? Can't work out why it would fix this issue with YouTube. Looked it up on the web - it's a full refresh rather than a normal refresh. Not convinced this will help with the one machine that is driving me mad with this, but will give it a go and let you all know the result.
_Bat_ Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Looked it up on the web - it's a full refresh rather than a normal refresh. Not convinced this will help with the one machine that is driving me mad with this, but will give it a go and let you all know the result. We had this problem too. This is what I've always done and it's fixed the problem 99% of the time.
ArchersIT Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 We have had this problem and when I looked into it I found that the youtube URLs had changed. As well as *.youtube.com we needed to open access to *.ytimg.com (which sorted the css and javascript problem) and *.cache.googlevideo.com (which actually allowed us to play the video). Hope that helps Jonathan
Michael Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I suspect most of you probably have a proxy, and proxy servers (depending what they run) can vary greatly in performance. A good test is to get a laptop, replicate the problem in school, then take it home and see if still have the same problem. It could either be your ISP or your proxy, or indeed a combination of both.
rad Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 We have access to Youtube and normally its because the flash player is not the right version, quick update and its sorted. BUT we had one day when all pc's where it did work didn't and this was down to the Grid changing something and changing back the next day. Only had a few complaints but was more annoying as I was called to Assembly by a DH to sort it in front of 300 kids!
Andie Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Ctrl+F5 worked! I don't think the problem is ISP or proxy related here, as not all machines have the problem, and some machines that were fine now aren't. The problem seems to come in waves, possibly due to changes to something at YouTube (as suggested above) or Flash. I'll have a look at some of the other suggestions here too, but for the moment all is back to working order. Maybe we should let the folks in the YouTube Community Forums know the solutions too!!
