We need only 30 more laptops and then our staff will have one each!

We have a budget of around £500 and they should have the following minimum spec

Intel Celeron M 370 / AMD Turion CPU

512mb RAM

CDRW/DVD

Intergrated Wireless

XP Pro

A carry bag!

They are going to be used for general office use, presentations, and SIMS lesson monitor (electronic registration app).

Obviously we want to get the best from our money so if you know anyone that supplies decent laptops for schools then can you list them here.

Yeah our LEA is doing a deal with Dell to provide D505's for around the price you want. Doesn't your LEA do something similar? It used to be the Laptops for Teachers scheme.

you can indeed squeeze Centrino in that budget. Ok slighty over but the price below is based on a order of 4 - for 30 you could get bigger discounts I'm sure

HP Compaq nx6110 - PM 740 (1.73) 15" TFT XGA, 512MB (2x256MB), 40GB, DVD/CDRW, 802.11b/g, XP Pro , Case

£537.50

I can whole heartedly recommend the HP nx6110 machines. Lovely build quality and no flexing bits of plastic like you find on DELLs!

I will agree with Ric those HPs are nice bits of kit have had one from that range and three from the NC6120 (i think its 6120) but basically its the same machine with more sockets on it, they were good machines.

i recently bought a Dell D610 (Pentium M 740/1GB RAM/60GB HDD/Intel WiFi/CDRW DVD/3yr NBDOS) for £516

The build quality is good (im typing on one now and cant find any flimsy bits of plastic :p) and is the second one ive had to use and have dealt with over 25 others without fault. Im sure you could get the price lower as im now in small business, and if you do a bulk order you can bend them more.

Just got a Dell D610 here. Impressed - quite solid, full compliment of legacy ports and swap out drives. Ideal for teching!

Yeah it still has a serial port on a DB9!, i like the media bay the best tho, if you have the optiplex SX chassis the drives are interchangeable, you can also use it as a second battery port for 8hr battery life on the laptop too :D
