I don't find it particularly stressful either, but I'm a pretty laid back person, or used to be. At the end of the day, there's only so much you can do at once and I just explain to people with problems, that everyone's problem I get is urgent because of the nature of IT. It also tends to be pretty quiet here these days, which will only persevere as Year 11 leave today.

Same here, software purchases great, not used for nor even knew they did maintenance/installations.

Create a Standard Pupil account with all policies applied, but no profile. Works on some machines but not others.

Add that same user to Domain Admins, keep everything else the same, and it works. Take them out of Domain Admins, and it doesn't again.

Ok. I created a new Student User, with only Start Menu and Desktop Redirection GPOs and no Mandatory Profile. Worked Fine. Moved said User into Student GPO with all policies applied. Worked Fine. Rebooted computer few times, relogged in few times, still fine. Copied profile to server, and entered path in User properties. Broken.

Can't help at all there, just log to files here.

So is it blocking all sites now, even those you want to allow?

Mine just redirects to a page saying 'Sorry, pupil access to this site is banned' It used to also say 'I'll make this page prettier when I get the time, I'm sure some of you will see a lot of it! ' But I got tired of them asking me when I would make it look better, as I never got round to it lol.

I have the proxy setting in the GPO to the ISA server same settings for all addresses, but to bypass it for local things and I've entered the server names and IP addresses.

I think it may actually be linked to a big problem I've never fixed, just worked around. Internet Explorer won't access secure sites unless you're an Administrator or an account that's never being set up. No matter what though, always just a 'Page Cannot Be Displayed' error. Firefox works fine though. I've tried everything to fix it.

We have about 600 computers and 70 laptops, two technicians. There was originally two, then I joined (to change mice and such) = 3. 1 left to have baby = 2 1 came to cover (then stayed on) = 3 original member (Network Admin) got suspended 2 years ago = 2 That's where we are now. We keep asking for another, but the suspended party is still beign paid so they have no money for it. We'v ejust resorted to saying we won't support things now, unless we get more help. What with the 3 different testing systems now, and over 70 programs on the 500 curriculum PCs, we can't do everything!

We use some software called Papercut (http://www.papercut.biz) which lets students and teachers check their credits, keeps a log of all jobs, creates reports etc You can set the cost per page, or area, or page size etc. If you want to find the costs per page for specific printers isn't it usually on the details page of the manufacturers sites?

They do indeed have at least those rights on those folders.

Any idea why, if a pupil logs in they receive a Connection Failed message when the DPS launces? Yet if they are added to the Domain Admin group it works fine? Also, if I turn on a computer and log in as a pupil, it wont work. If I log in as me (Domain Admin) then it will work for me. If I then log out and log that same pupil back in, it will work for them too. Unless I reboot the PC and it will then be broken for them.

Like I said, we have pretty much nothign to do with it, none of the decisions, setup, content managing. Not me. Not sure who it is though!

I wish that's all I had to do That's why we're not going the Moodle route apparantly. The (Acting and Ex) Network Manager (one and same person) didn't want to have to spend any mantime on configuration and maintenance and teaching it to others etc.

I think ours is in the midst of being set up. It's TALMOS. I don't have any say in what it is, that's up the the Network Manager, which we don't have, complicated situation.

All I can think of is if you Compress the folder that contains the compressed folder you want to uncompress, and apply it to all subfolders. Then when you uncompress that folder you can tell it to apply the uncompress to all subfolders and files. If you get what I mean?

lol oops. Oh well, not our department, hopefully it'll make them be more careful in the future, I mean we've had a dozen boards for years and never had any break, they have 1 board for a few months and break 2 pens! Should have charged £45.

Right Click the compressed Folder, Properties, Advanced Button, Uncheck 'Compress contents to save disk space'
