I was wondering, is there any schools out there that have already implemented a VLE.

 

Any suggestions as to which are good one to go with and which ones to give a miss

I think ours is in the midst of being set up.

I don't have any say in what it is, that's up the the Network Manager, which we don't have, complicated situation.

That's why we're not going the Moodle route apparantly.

 

The (Acting and Ex) Network Manager (one and same person) didn't want to have to spend any mantime on configuration and maintenance and teaching it to others etc.

I would like to set up a VLE and then leave it for the teachers to manage the content that goes onto the VLE. but i know that will not be the case... as i am sure that is the case with many places

Setup didn't take long. Shouting at CLEO to fix their reverse proxy took an inordinatly more time.

 

The training and developing the content is the big time sink, but that's platform independant.

Like I said, we have pretty much nothign to do with it, none of the decisions, setup, content managing. Not me.

what I've done so far is set up a moodle site in my own webspace, and given the IT savvy teachers a login to their departments and let them have a play. It's early doors yet but I'm getting some good input, and learning stuff for myself. Word of mouth is the next step, then when I have a good idea of how this moodle thing works I'll try and set up the full site.

We now have Moodle set up and hosted by LGfL - even less for me to do. 4 teachers will be trialling it with a class each to discover the features and then it will properly go live in September.

 

We are currently pushing teachers to learn and discover best practice for themselves and then share it with others. I believe that you call these teachers 'disciples' - like a cult

We have had our set up for a bit but getting people to produce content for it, thats a different matter :? .........

The problem with things like the workload agreement etc... is that teachers don't want to spend the time creating resources oh some do but a lot don't.

 

With what you could spend on the 5 year talmos lease you could implement moodle on a nice server and then either buy in a load of content for which there is at least on uk partner or employ someone to create you content.

How do teachers find Moodle? If UI conventions are too long winded that's when they start dragging their feet. If it's as easy using Office then they feel more motivated to create content.

After a lot of wrangling, we've finally decided to go for MS Learning Gateway. It was a close run thing with Moodle but the Learning Gateway won for various reasons.
