All in one PC with built in TFT

Are any of you using these, we have been asked to look at these for our llanguages dept as they dont have much room and space is a issue.

 

I know RM do them and also http://www.pars.co.uk have them in their catalogue. I am looking for some feedback, price and recommendations on these all in on pc's please.

Also, look at the HP and Dell systems that allow you to mount the PC on the TFT stand. These are possibly a better bet since parts will be easier to get. I would go for the HP

 

The RM One machines that were lent to us for the conference by RM seemed well built but ran quite hot and left very little room for expansion. I thought that the glass screen was a nice touch... all the TFTs I buy for classroom use are glass-fronted to stop stray compasses and scissors, etc.

 

Something else to consider is what happened to Dos_Box... he had a suite of all-in-one machines from AJP a year or so ago. One evening, some clever crims broke in, unplugged all the kettle leads and network cables and carried them out with their in-built carry handles!

We used to use the AJP NeoPCs' until they were stolen.

They were good machines, but like most small footprint PC's, only the RAM and HD were upgradable. They were very reliable and were RIS complient and WOL worked too. I recommend them.

 

Oh, and they had a handle in the back of the screen so you could carry them around. Bonus!!

Soory to hear about the sturdy carry handles. I like the look of those but the price on the page would i guess definately put SLT right off.

 

@Ric do you have a link or more info on those HPs or Dell you mentioned?

The Dell GX520 sf is on offer at the moment to get the "free" stand and 17" tft.

 

We have used the SX270s and will probably go for the GX520s this year ... we have eval models coming in over the next few weeks.

The HPs are the DC range - definately NOT the DXs, they're too heavy to mount and overheat according to HP and Norphy

 

The Dell GX520 celeron model was coming in at £450 ish last week - those monitors are the best part of £200

Hope you're not forgetting the new Apple iMacs! Remember they'll dual boot Windows XP and for education the 20" version comes in at just under a grand!

Overheat? I said nothing about that

 

Although they will need some space to the left and to the right of them so the air intake/outputs are not blocked.

HP are also offering the cost of the TFT back when you buy their all in one solution saving you £139 per system. The offer is only applicable when you buy the following:

 

HP DC7600 Ultra Slim Desktop (Part Codes - EC842ET or EC953ET)

Integrated Works Centre Stand (DL641AT)

HP L1706 17" TFT (PX849AT)

 

I have so far had a quote for £638.80 per system but the after you claim the £139 back it brings the cost down to a nice £499.80

 

If you are going to buy more that 20 you must get your supplier to give you seperate invoices because in HP's Terms and Conditions you can only claim back upto 20 at a time.

We bought 30 P4 2.8ghz GX520 SFF system units from DELL in December 2005; so far we have had 2 PSUs go bang and 3 system boards replaced, not including the DOA system board the engineer brought with him on one occasion. On both occasions when the PSUs failed there was a member of staff nearby, excluding the possibility that the power select switch had been interfered with.

 

DELL assure me there is not a 'generic' problem with these units.....

has any one come accross the RMone all in one machine. i know its RM which can very easily put people off. but these seem really good, a bit pricey but seem nice. i have a got a demo machine here and i'm quite impressed with the build quality.

We got 16 for a music cluster due to space constraints and were pleased. Had a problem to start with noise, but found out it was a known error with a batch of fans and so an engineer was sent to fix them all. Had one stolen, though they had to cut through all the cables as the 'cave' restricts access to unplug everything. One other was attempted to be stolen at the same time but we think with the time it took to break the strengthened glass and get the first out they were disturbed. The one not taken had fallen over and taken a battering and we were chuffed when it started up and run fine. A few minor scratches on the screen but that was it.

Aiming to get a whole lot more for our Main IT rooms as they have stupidly thin benching.

This will apply to any all-in-one, but is much nicer to have one box delivered and be able to just pull out the machine and take it to its spot then the usual faff with monitor and base, even with TFTs!!

RM very kindly lent us some RMOnes to use at the EduGeek Conferene North. They seemed OK but they were nothing special IMHO - especially for the price. I also object to the way RM don't just give you the cheap price to begin with.

Look good on paper, and a lot of nice design touches. A bit ugly in real life. Maybe I'm biased but I was very under impressed.

 

Don't like the front silver bit beneath the monitor: Feels cheap and tacky and the blue lit power button too tempting for idiots to turn off each others machines.

You can haggle for educational pricing from them. We saved several hundred per machine.
