So far I have: Set up the New Dell Server Renamed the Domain Installed Exchange Installed WSUS Written various scripts in VB for administration tasks including importing new users. Currently Spreading 8 APs around the school using PoE and extending a redundant network in the room their going in upto the ceiling so the little darlings cant get hold of them too easy. After friday I'm off for 2 weeks. Before then I got to help the IT teacher doing the website with some style sheets and stuff then thats me done. I also need to chuck a load of stuff in the skip.

RobC Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Ok, on third week of hols here. Last week was finding my desk & organising my office now that I'm permanent. This week has been installs & configs for our second network and I've just started on software installs & audits on all the systems in the Whole School network. Still to do: Network card installs in music, IT Handbook to write, More software installs, Fixing phone faults, Pugging clay for the art department (hell, it's a change from the computers!), Sorting out the extra thousand users on the network from before I came here & getting them ready to be deleted, Installing network cabling in Chemistry. And that's just the jobs I can think of right now.
stu0132 Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Hi all Yes i have the whole school to be networked exchange server, 25 pcs 15 laptops 11 whiteboards and an ISA server to install. 20 re-installs of old machines and no blo**dy holiday... Nice isnt it. HOpe all goes well. Are they RM machines that you are putting in?
ninjabeaver Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 OK, I got to re-build the client image and re-image 350 + PC's. 12 laptops to configure and 5 to re-configure for new users. 1x Exchange 2003 server. 'How to' books on order. Spring Cleaning of the existing servers Looking at WSUS. Rolling out the Exchange Server to the Admin area. Lots of little things. God, I'm dreading it. At least theres no studetns and very few staff.
GrumbleDook Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 This is getting a bit like the 4 yorkshiremen .... Right ... We have ... 70 new PCs (2 rooms of 30 and 10 for music) 30 of these are upgrades so we are moving various rooms around, leading to re-imaging 300+ PCs. 18 eMacs/1 Mac Mini 30+ laptops to sort New switch hardware, combining Curriculum, Admin and Training School networks at last! Dealing with moving the SIMS box onto a different domain. New W2K3 domain (finally getting rid of legacy bits) incorporating SMS and MOM. 8 new APs. 10 Projectors storage for 120 Laptops Configure 3 VLEs (First Class, Moodle, Digital Brain) Complete documentation for policies and procedures. New behaviour tracking system. Teachers' desktop (eventually) Lesson Monitor (eventually) And probably lots more ... Oh yeah ... all that exams malarky ...
MkII Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Upgrade email system - import 1000 users Migrate to 2003 Re-image 75 PCs 1 citrix server Cable 2 new rooms - 20 points in each + other odd rooms Add 15 New Music PCs My block is being re-furbished so: Move 30 PC IT suite across campus and to top floor of 3 storey building with NO LIFT! LOL! Re-locate my control room Temporarily re-locate servers and put back Temporarily re-locate my store cupboard I'm in 5 weeks out of 7 - off the last 2 weeks.
Alex Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 Not too much on... * 2x DCs * 1x ISA Server * 1x Exchange 2003 Server * 1x EMC AX-100 SAN * 1x Tanberg Autoloader * 6x Citrix Servers * 200x Migration AWAY from Windows 98 to Linux Citrix Clients plus fixing the broken stuff as usual! fair few toys to play with there! Interesting that your going for citrix, has crossed my mind a few times.
ssimstar Posted July 24, 2005 Posted July 24, 2005 Got about 250 workstations to rebuild. Easy peasy! Look upon my works and despair.
tarquel Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Alot of stuff that the SMT knows about, then a whole host of stuff that they wouldn't even fathom (if thats how its spelt lol) Nath.
ConTheITGuy Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Skimmed and papered my lounge, removed old gas fire - installed new fireplace. Next week tiling the bathroom! Can't wait to get back to work!
Diello Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Well I'm glad my summer holidays are quieter than yours 1 new DC, 66 new workstations around the school, plus 62 going into 2 brand new ICT Suites, moving SIMS over to whole-school network, 50 peices of software to MSI up on our backlog list, finding out what my desk looks like without piles on it...
RobC Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Christ Diello, you must be uber stressed... Even your desk's got piles!
E1uSiV3 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Well makes my holiday pale in comparison: 12 new laptops to unpack and RIS 2 admin workstations to be set up and RISed (1 is in a room with no network point, gotta run a cable the length of the building *yay*) Teach myself to stop playing with the Cisco APs when the headteacher is in work out if i can convince SMT to buy 80 802.11g cards so i can finally enable my RADIUS server and WPA Fit some new shiny 5.2dBi antennas to some of the poorer performing APs spring clean all the servers Create 150 new student accounts (yes i do use scripts, im not mad lol) RIS 100 exsisting workstations RIS every staff laptop that enters the building over the hols invent a good way of destroying the exchange server so i can buy a new one anything else i think to do On hols atm till next thursday, when im back i should have my 10mbit lease line courtersy of the BGfL woohoo
Ric_ Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 @E1uSiV3: You can borrow my 2k Exchange server if you want to break yours - just at it to the domain and everything will go tits up!
E1uSiV3 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 lol mine was a 2000 exchange box till i did an in place upgrade to 2003... its serving all the staff (bout 85 people) and its a 900 duron with an ATA100 HDD and 256MB RAM... so performance is poor unsuprisingly lol
