I think the definition has changed over the years. What you call Trolls were definitely called Gonks in the playground of St Martin's School, Worle near Weston-Super-Mare circa 1974!

As you say, we are both right. My sister is three years older than me and she remembers the fluffy gonks rather than the troll-type ones so maybe the definition changed over the years

I think I remember both - but it was a long, long time ago and memory is fading....fading...

When I was younger Dad used to bring home bits of software from work and one was called Geodetic. When we got AOHell dial up I tried to sign up as Geodetic...but it was taken...hence....Joedetic.

Well mine is from Aldous Huxleys 'Brave New World' with my initials added on to make it unique enough that no matter what I sign up to that username is not normally taken.

Whilst at a LAN one of the others (who we didn't like all that much) was using the name "Master of Puppets" so we all started changing our names to irritate him (it started with one guy using "Pastor of Muppets", and then a variety of other Metallica songs from "Call of Ktulu" to "Fuel"...)... one of the ones i set mine to was "OutLaw Torn" which then stuck...

 

Over the years on a few other forums and so-on i used to get referred to in the short-hand "Olt" instead (thus the avatar), which i usually use (just this forum didn't let me use a 3 letter username)...

My name is Sony's creation. When I was 14 I bought a playstation and sent off my registration card. Any post I ever got from them was addressed to 'Mr Jawloms'. I did one day a few years later figure out why! Presumably whoever entered my details in to Sony's database could touch type, but when they typed in my surname their right hand was one key to the right of where it should be when touch typing - my surname is actually 'Hawkins'!
