Gibbo Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I'm using PMP 5.5 and one thing I've noticed is that the little "you have no credit" and "you cannot print in colour" pop-up boxes aren't showing. This results in about a dozen calls to the office from pupils saying "I cannot print". I don't have any documentation for the software, and contacting the company just results in them trying to sell me the latest version (no budget so I can't). Anyway, all the right boxes seem ticked at the PMP end, so would it be the firewall preventing them showing at the client? TIA
localzuk Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Yep. The client needs to be able to contact the server and be contacted by the server. Add it as a program exception to the windows firewall - that solved the issue for us.
cromertech Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 It could be firewall but it's more likely to be the way that it sends the messages The program uses the messenger service and so this needs to be started on every computer that you need the messages displayed on and the PMP server. The service was disabled by microsoft shortly after SP1 due to it being exploited by viruses and it doesn't exist at all in vista so you will need to make sure your virus protection is fully up to date if you want to enable it again. Selling you a new version will not even solve this problem as i have V7 and it still uses the same method! You can set the service to start automatically through active directory group policy under computer configuration somewhere
localzuk Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 It doesn't use the messenger service. It can do, but there is a client built specifically to remove the need to use the messenger service - and this is the method advised for people to use. It is available to download from their site.
elsiegee40 Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 We had this problem when we went to Version 7... and we don't have Windows Firewall turned on anywhere. After much tooing and froing and a lengthy call from PMP support in the USA... we ended up re-installing the previous version of the client on all PCs which works just fine with the newer version of the main thing.

Thanks for that. I wish they had told me when i phoned
Gibbo Posted October 15, 2008 Author Posted October 15, 2008 Hmmm, I don't have a client version. The original CD has a huge crack in it!
Gibbo Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Does anyone have a copy of the 5.5 software that they could ISO for me? I can provide proof of ownership of the original (it needs a product key anyway so the disc would be useful without that). I did contact SSI but they were only interested in selling me the latest version.
mrtechsystems Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 (edited) Yeah think I have files got it PM me check the client install version and post it 10.01.238 I have been using 5.5 6.0 and currently moving over to 7 Edited October 20, 2008 by mrtechsystems 1
