Since the start of September, we have been experiencing issues whereby users keep getting DC'd and kicked out of SIMS Next Gen/Connected after very short periods of inactivity.

It's always kicked users out after long periods of inactivity, which I would expect, but now it's happening even after a few minutes since the start of the new school year.

Just seeing if anyone else has experienced this problem?

SIMS Next Gen and SIMS Connected are two different products. You should clarify which one you are referring to. We use neither here, only SIMS 7 (another product), so I can't help you with the question, other than to say rephrase/clarify it.

If you are talking about SIMS Connected (e.g. the remote desktop session version of SIMS 7) try ensuring your browser isn't sleeping the tab.

In edge the policy is 'Always keep these sites active'

we have similar here. ESS gave a list of URL to whitelist. We have done this all and still get the same. Also actioned the Browser Keep alive url they provided.

I believe its a ESS issue, but ESS always blame the network.

The optimistic cynic in me wonders if this is not entirely accidental in order  to make the new 365/Google-by-default authentication system appear like an immediate win for everybody (when it eventually goes live).

FWIW some of our Conditional Access Policies force this on certain users on certain services where we absolutely want to minimise the risk that an auth token might remain valid any longer than absolutely necessary.  I wonder if this (parentpay's plan) might be leveraging the methodology some of us are familiar with when  changing IP ranges via DHCP: ahead of the change, reduce the life time to as close to zero as tolerable so when you switch over live , the users have a minimal amount of downtime.
