Been round the houses with this one

Dell Inspiron 3847

Wins 10 boots ok

Then after a few minutes decides to stop responding

Cloned the hard drive onto an SSD - no difference - changed memory..... no good

Works in Safe Mode OK - when I restart in Normal Mode and then restart with all NON MS services disabled - it still does it

Put new heat paste on the processor heatsink

Plugged HD into another desktop and it worked OK - the display picture was a lot bigger on that one, which made me think it might be display driver on the original...

Changed resolution on original - no change - then uninstalled display driver as well as ticking "delete driver" in the box

No change

Any advice appreciated !!

Would definitely seem like a Driver or Firmware issue to me.

At a guess, likely the processor given you've changed everything else. Worth downloading all the latest drivers from the Dell website, then booting into Safe Mode and updating them all.

Or, ideally, upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11!

Windows 10 ESU Year 2/3 - still got life left in it yet! We've still got a couple IT rooms running on 4th gen - 6th gen intel (⌐■_■)

Does it BSOD or just freeze?

If its freezes does it unfreeze after a minute or two?

Freezes - don't come back

This happens in the original set up (which did not have any changes made to it)

I am not trying to install the hard drive on another computer (only as a test to see what changes - which worked ok, although as mentioned, the graphics looked bigger....)

If the processor had a fault, why would it work OK in Safe Mode ?

I've had similar, where it worked fine when not loading drivers. Turned out to be the trackpad drivers. Can you remove them?

It is a desktop

Would mouse drivers cause it ?

Just experienced the same. Dell Latitude 7420 16GB - Keeps freezing after about 15 minutes.

Initial investigation points to Google Drive for the desktop. I think it may be corrupt cache . Cleared cache removed Google Drive and reinstalled.

Appears to have fixed it fingers crossed 🤞.

Are you using Google Drive for the desktop on your pc?

We have a few Win 10 machines doing this. We use Action1 and uninstalling recent Win updates solved it. They're getting replaced/binned soon but that worked for me.

Well folks, it seems like disabling Google Drive on Startup solved the issue

That's many hours of trying everything else that I won't get back !!!!!

Many thanks

Just in case it helps anyone else - we had this on Win 10 and 11 machines - freezing ~10 minutes after boot, whether logged in or not - it was the Secure Boot certificate updates. Specifically, trying to update them on machines that couldn't take it.

Interested to know how you remedied the certificates !

GPO details below (not sure the scheduled task deletion actually worked, but the reg keys definitely had the desired effect)

I will however also make clear - this is NOT a fix - these devices DO need to replaced due to age, but we are where we are unfortunately...

We've seen this issue on a few of our machines. A Stone desktop and HP ProBook 450 G9. Both Intel devices. Windows 11 on both. Google Drive only installed on one so will try removing and see if that makes a difference.

We previously reimaged the devices and that seemed to work for a day before we encountered the same issue.

I just disabled "start on startup" in GD preferences and rebooted
