flyinghaggis Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 We're looking to buy a batch of A4 USB flatbed scanners and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? We've used Epson's in the past but I'm not too impressed as a lot of their drivers aren't signed (especially on older models) and need to be installed manually as a result. We've also had a few fail over the years so we'd be keen to try a different brand. Ideally we'd like something with signed drivers that they can be copied into the shared drivers folder so the scanners will install automatically when connected to a PC? It also needs to work as a TWAIN device so photoshop can import from it and should support the default windows (WIA) scanner and camera wizard. Any recommendations? TIA
powdarrmonkey Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 A Canon Lide 90. It takes up the minimum of room, can be picked up and moved with nil effort, has signed drivers and most importantly it's powered by USB only, so no adapters to fight with. Is about £50 retail I think.

Their cheapest "LiDE" £30-ish model works a treat, and is USB powered so there's only one cable, no wall socket to plug in. If it breaks, at £30 just buy a new one. Don't know about the driver being signed, but I'll try and remember to look when I sort out the one we've got to install in the front office. Haven't tried to install the driver / software on a network, we're using the scanners on stand-alone machines as scanning workstations. -- David Hicks
Sylv3r Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Another in agreement for the Canon Lide 20 / 30 models. They come at around the £20-£25ish mark from the majority of suppliers. Just make sure you download the drivers from the site and just the drivers and install them - not all the rubbish bloatware that comes with it. I am sure they use Signed drivers.

bossman Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Just to be different we went down the Canon Lide 25 route and on installing the first one found they were a right PITA so I sent them back and got HP4200 for less cost and they work perfectly and have approx 12 of them. Just my experience though ok
