Does anyone else find it infuriating that some updates/patches come from Solus and others are emailed out. It is fairly obvious that the patches are going to have to end up at a school so why not use Solus

Opinoins wanted please :)

Cheers for the reply, I guess you are at a school?

We are talking about getting it from Capita to the LA not from the LA to schools

It would certainly make life easier for everyone if all patches were via SOLUS, even those that are LA/School specific.

There is a currently discussion taking place on Capita's SIMS SupportNet forums regarding this subject.

I've asked for it to be added to the agenda for the next SIMS Northern User Group meeting (for Local Authorities/Support Units) in September.

The problem is most LEA have a mirror site which they use rather then the standard Capita one, which they manually update. They do this cut down the amount of traffic to there main server, also the LEA server should be closer and faster connection to the end school.

So, Capita will contact, ideally, the LEA with the patch, who will then update there mirror site. You'll then get authorised to download it.

If your contacting Capita directly, they have no access to your LEA mirror site. If you download direct from Capita, take it up with them.

I'm not sure I agree 100%. The problem with SOLUS is that it's all or nothing. You don't get a choice in which patch you can install and which you can leave out. I don't want to be forced to install a whole upgrade release when all I need is one patch for results day or the school census:(.

You can, contact your LEA, ask them to remove the package, they will, via schools manager, if you go direct to Capita, ask them, they might even give you access to let you manage what you can download.

He's how you would do it in Suffolk:

Email to:

Subject: School | 123 | SOLUS Package

Body: Hi all,

Can you please remove Package XYZ from SOLUS for me so I can just install patch ABC then reauthorise once I've applied it? I plan to do the patch on friday at 5pm.

Many Thanks,

Job title

School

How hard is that? Ideally they should do this auto when you get a patch ;)

Applying all patches via SOLUS is on the cards. It is something that I am very keen on us doing but it does involve some re-engineering of systems at our end to make it possible.
  • Thanks 2
