Strange isn't it, a lot of us do love to stick with what we know and hate someone messing with our forum format...... Whilst also being very keen to thrust a new OS on our users the minute it's released. I mean "new is OK as long as it looks, feels and works like the old one" is what I'm getting!

I personally have only had a couple of 'what?' moments, but on the whole find it OK, for what I need.. Maybe as someone else mentioned, it's time I should look at installing Windows 11, while I'm feeling so open to change...

Some old legacy OS forums are amalgamated (or were these already like it in the old version?)..

Anyway no, the multiple threads issue is not solved...

We are to be archiving a lot of old\unused forums, and next will most likely be the Windows Vista\7\8 forums into the Windows forum. It does make the forum pages less cluttered and allows us to put some new forums in.

I feel your pain about how the 'new posts' list contains many posts from the same thread and we are to be, if we can, sorting all of this out in time, but there is still a lot to do and @ZeroHour only has so many hands and time!

Weirdly, I was taking a look at our stats last week, and there are still some out there using Windows Vista\7\8.

I pressed image.png.e349148ae4e70984c22835d8b8385155.png

But there were some URL parameters in there that I dont get when I just press that "normally". I tend to have the page open a long time...

I am hoping to try and recreate it, I know duplicates will occur if you hit the 'Load activity' button when it appears but I have not seen a thread appear twice so far.

Are you guys at least going to the latest unread and last post now?

Strange, I don't seem to be able to reproduce the multiple threads at will, it was funny that I'd just read the post, went back to the top, clicked on 'What's New' and there they were, so I took the screenshot and posted...

Yes, landing on 'First Unread' every time now!

The other thing is (nothing major) the notifications bell stays with a number on it for a while even when I've read the post (not going via the bell), seems to be a lag on updating what you've read and what you haven't. Haven't fully tested it, but sometimes even when I've read a post, after a few minutes I'll get the pop up saying there's a new post and the bell will still have a number on it.

I’m using ‘what’s new’, ‘my activity streams’, ‘custom activity stream’, and that seems to be working well for me.

I have figured out one way it appears, if you use the load activity button it will show duplicates. We had a spammer (in this thread of all places) and when I loaded activity I could see multiple occurrences of their spam posts one after another.

They were all individual posts rather than duplicates but it seems to load activity seems to cause it for me. A page refresh will prevent the issue.

Still getting multiple threads here too, example from this one:

Regarding going to the last unread post, still seem to get pulled down to the bottom post even if there are more unread ones above it no matter what the last unread one is, example:

image.thumb.png.46eda24ea24304baea5d14a65f5ee177.png

Then I scroll up and there's more unread posts with the "new line" above the one it pulled me too:

Yeah the hotfix only applies to condensed for now. The expanded shows part of the post so clicking the title should possibly take you to the post but I will see if I can move things around a bit. The old site never had an expanded view as such.

Clicking the circle/icon to the left of the title should take you to the unread parts.

Interesting!

Yep that seems to the case on both sides - Turning condensed on does remove the duplicates, and never even noticed the little circles were different to titles! Only noticed the Stars which I assumed were Pinned Items (Too many items like that are hidden away haha)

Star means subscribed if I recall.

The old site also worked that way by default I think. Not sure if I set an option or hacked in a fix to adjust it as it was a while ago.

Another thing I noticed, I'm not sure if this is just a case of an odd search algorithm or whether it needs time to "re-train" itself as such on the new forum, but the Search Tools seem very poor in terms of finding old threads to the extent it's easier to Google search for Edugeek and a phrase than find it on here via the search option.

As an example, searching for "department training" thread I saw a while back today brings up two threads, one related to Azure, and one to Network Managers (rather than departments), before going way offtopic to Papercut Departments, SIMs Marksheets, Movies about Trains etc, where as doing the same search on Google is finding all the old threads that the old forum search would have brought up:

Not sure if there's anything you can do to tweak the search as such but it's definitely not showing up the items I'd expect to be finding when searching for a phrase

Can you tell me what thread you were hoping to find?

There is scope for a few changes to try and improve weighting. I have tweaked one setting just now but search is a wide scope.

In that specific search the term was just "department training" - Which I'd be expecting it to be returning the threads more of which are related to that phrase in general over picking things like "train" in Bullet Train title before showing threads with all the details etc.

Examples from Google:

IT Staff Training/Sharing Knowledge - How do you do it? - General Chat - EduGeek.net
In house IT Training for staff - How do you do....it? - EduGeek.net

Training for Technician - How do you do....it? - EduGeek.net

Training Providers - Online - General Chat - EduGeek.net

Just seems like it's more focusing on single words in general (or even partial words like "Train" a dragon rather than "Training" etc)

Where have all the UK regional forums gone?   You've got NZ/AUS etc ones with a handful of posts in and none fo the UK??

Do you not see them at the top of the Regional forum tab?

Sorry, not sure if this has been reported already but edugeek.net, with no "www", returns a 503 error.  No biggie but thought it might be either a symptom of something else or lead to further issues.

I was just about to post exactly this but was checking for a duplicate thread first incase it was already reported! Can confirm this is still happening (and has been since, I think yesterday).
