studio Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 I got an email today from FFT (forwarded to schools by our LA) saying that the uploading of pupil data to get their KS2 data (i.e. new Year 7's) will be coming week commencing 15th Dec!
CAM Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Do we need a new subscription for FFT Aspire? We have been using FFTLive but it isn't updating and trying to get into FFT Aspire says "You have a problem with your account." :/
Seb1780 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 @CAM - yes, it is a different system and you need a separate account setting up. Also note that the admin account does not see the data, it's just to manage school level accounts, so you will probably need two accounts. We subscribe through the LA so they sorted out our first school admin account.

Both Aspire and FFTLive will be down for maintenance from 5pm on Thursday 29th January. The new release will be available for schools to use from 8.30am on Friday 30th January. The January release will include: • Roll forward of all pupils to current academic year in Aspire for target setting • Autumn census (Oct 2014): updated benchmark estimates for all current pupils including new Year 7 in Aspire (KS2 and KS4) and FFTLive (KS1, KS2, KS4 and KS5) • New Aspire pupil import tool: for schools to import new pupils for target setting (i.e. those who have started since October) • New Aspire export tool: for schools to export benchmark estimates and targets for pupils in KS2 and KS4 (FFTLive can be used to export estimates for KS1 and KS5)

Was a stupid idea from day one, IMO, to drop the old system immediately; it should always have been the plan to update both for this year at least to aide the changeover for schools. I do wonder whether we'll be receiving some sort of reimbursement considering we're halfway through the academic year already with no data to speak of.

studio Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 So FFT has finally updated and I'm looking at checking the SATs grades I have in SIMS with the ones on FFT. I may be being dense here but is there an easy way to get them from FFT into SIMS other than inputting them manually - as the only export option is PDF?!?!?
Seb1780 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 The student explorer option *should* allow exporting of data from FFT, but it's not there yet! Also, some questionable KS2 data in there - some of the figures are two or three sub-levels away from my calculations.
mark80 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 @Seb1780 - I have just checked mine and getting the same anomalies. After a quick check of my data it would appear that FFT have taken the Reading level/sublevel from their KS2 SAT and used it as the English_Test result. It would appear they have discounted SPaG completely. Can you guys check to see if you have the same? I cannot find any guidance from DFe on how to get the "English Level" from the current setup of Reading, Writing & SPaG for those who sat the SATs in 2014
Banjo Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 I don't think SPAG is used in the Eng overall calculation. FFT don't include spag or phonics in their estimates. LA's have asked for part of this years payment back and have been told flatly 'no' - FFT are giving out free training sessions (2 or 3) instead to LA's for their schools.
Seb1780 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 AFAIK spag/gaps/whatever does not contribute to the English KS2 score - this should be the average of the Reading Test score and the Writing TA result. My biggest concern are a couple of examples where the pupil has level 2 TA's and N or B SAT results and these are coming out as 3c - it just doesn't make any sense. I've got the LA on the case, so that's alright then
mark80 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Can you check their Reading Test from SATs level against the "English_Test" level from FFT. Mine are the same, implying they have ignored the Writing TA level completely.
Seb1780 Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 @mark80 - I've just been through the first couple of dozen pupils on FFT Live (not Aspire) and I agree with you, the English KS2 result showing is just their Reading test result and does not appear to be taking into account the TA Writing assessment.

I have managed to do it, but all the new students come out as Unmatched - Pupil will not be updated. This is a different message to the FFT Help guide, which shows Unmatched - Pupil will be added as a new pupil.

gazskeltz Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 @South CoastSaint - I've also tried adding students that weren't on the database with partial success. 4 Matched and added, 4 not matched - the line says 'Not matched. This pupil cannot be updated in Aspire' 3 of these are from abroad - I'm investigating the fourth who has been in a couple of primary schools. Regards Gary
Bev Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Aspire isn't giving out KS3 Targets, so we had assumed we wouldn't be getting any KS3 targets this year. However, FFTLive is calculating them. Seems a complete and utter farce to be honest! I can also get CSV exports from FFTLIVE, but not from Aspire. Is there any reason I should be avoiding fftlive data?
