We are now at 7981 members. Will it be today or tomorrow we hit the magic 8000?

I hope we hit 10,000 users by BETT as the banners etc will be proclaiming this fact as I have to get them ordered soon!

We have been doubling our membership every year since we started 3 years ago, so we aren't doing too bad :)

At this rate we'll soon be a world government, unless the Elvis impersonators beat us to it.

Hmmm, how many of the 8000 members are actual frequent visitors though? And how many just signed up for a quick fix?

8000 sure is a lot, but I would estimate it as a lot less than 1000 that visit on a daily basis.

Well actually according to the members tabs there are:

4270 (142 Pages *30 to a page + 10) members who have never made a single post

6612 (220P * 30 + 12) members who have made less than 10 posts

7332 (244 * 30 + 12) members who have made less than 100 posts.

Which leaves (at time of writing) 655 "regular" members

Yes they are probably more active with the active/regular members as mine doesnt take into account how recently they signed up and how much they've posted in that time.

By the way the analysis wasnt meant to belittle the amount of members. Mentioning how many we have will only serve to gain new members, who will hopefully stay and make a decent contribution.

Post count really is not that important. My boss for example does not post often but he is a regular. Also he only logs in when he needs to thus has an account but may seem to have been a while since he was on.

No other forum really cares about the nitty gritty, its just the total.

I have lots of "idle" accounts that never get removed and I would be annoyed if they were.

@Ric_ - Is that 1500 individual visitors? Or 1500 page hits possibly from the same visitors? If it's the first, I have to say then that is impressive especially during the summer hols

That's unique visitors. Usually we push around 6000 unique visitors per day during term time, but page views are down even now as we are all very busy with our summer work. Strange just how hard we work during the holidays.

As DB says, that is unique visits. Impressive considering it was a SUNDAY during the summer hols.

As people have said get lot of lurkers if you could see ip and emaill domains :) no one would ever post here ;)

But that is how communities are only 10% of membership will post on regular frequency, 20% will post irregularly and then 70% will lurk (numbers are est there is some research onto communities that I can't get my hands on the moment that gives same sort of %).

i have my own forum with over a thousand members and if someone has not been active for 6 months we sand them an email and if nothing happens I delete their account

The Grand total is worthless how amny have not logged of for 3 months ?.. it the number of active posters the really counts

Well your a rare one and that would be very damaging as I would not rejoin a site ever if my account was removed. There are several sites I dont regularily log in to and the email me but I dont care tbh. I know I have an account and if I happen to go there again I will login but otherwise I wont just start living on it again because I got a email.

Whats the site url out of interest?

I would agree that 'closed' sites where content cannot e viewed without an account could easily have accounts deleted if inactive for a few months. EduGeek contains a huge amount of pulically available content which non-members find useful.

If someone posts one helpful piece of info, is that not as worthwhile as the 9000+ posts that 'Geoff the Google Bot' has posted?

Yayyyy for Edugeek,

Some say his subconscious is linked to the internet via token ring and that he won't take a bite unless it's divisible by 8. All we know is, he's called Geoff.

Woo! Well done Edugeek.. Stronger.. Stronger.. Stronger..

I have no doubt in my mind that we will reach over 10,000 members by BETT 09.

Its quite shocking.. when i speak to companies (mainly IT Obviously) i always ask like do u know edugeek haha! somehow always comes in the conversation.. and i must admit most of em say arr! yh i know edugeek ;)
