Omega_NL Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 Small typo, you've accidentally put '2's where '3's should be in the salary range. Thought you should know 1
roymorden Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 You may wish to talk to finance and point out that from April minimum wage for full time is £25,875 (40 hour week) and if that is what you pay a technican then their line manager should be on at least £30k 1
HarryMonkey Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 My old school from the 1970s when Barossa School merged with Bagshot Secondary to form Collingwood Comprehensive.
headoned Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 IanT is clearly a time traveller from 2008 https://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-jobs/16809-assistant-network-manager-23-097-24-528-per-annum-inclusive.html
mikes Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 lmao that's less than I'm on now as a basic IT Tech where I technically have no responsibility (no Manager title)
LaNova Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 That's interesting... I was reached out to after a few weeks of silence after applying to the network manager role at Collingwood, asking if I wanted to put myself forward for this instead. The job pack I was sent put the salary at £34420-38002, and I didn't hear back when I asked to put my name forward. Based on the job descriptions for network manager (congrats to OP for getting that position) and deputy, the network manager is more of a director for IT, and the deputy is closer in role to an actual network manager, which makes the salary even more insulting. What a state the education IT industry is in. 1
thimon Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 My technician is on way above the top of this pay bracket. I know we’re not meant to post in these threads, but that salary is shocking, it has to be called out. 2
RLR Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 The apprentice job posted a few days ago is paying almost this!
Cazab Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 Was going to say if they're only willing to offer this salary, why don't they just advertise for an apprentice and take advantage of the apprenticeship levy.
Ditto Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 Was going to say if they're only willing to offer this salary, why don't they just advertise for an apprentice and take advantage of the apprenticeship levy. Wouldn't normal post on a job advert, as I think rules say you shouldn't but this one is odd. I was not up to date with this thread until now, but I have posted elsewhere asking for an explanation as other oddities have shown up. However, with regards apprenticeship role, go to the school website and they are looking for one! I couldn't see them advertising the role there for the one that this thread is listing. I'm hoping things are cleared up by Monday, but if not, I have colleagues that work with the school so I can approach them directly.
Olliedawg Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 I've had a look through the Job description.. that is crazy for that money, sorry. I'd be surprised if you get any applicants at all
KarlGoddard Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 I rarely post on job adverts, but I have to say that the salary for this post is rather disgusting. Shame on the institution for thinking they can pull this off. Rant over 1
Steve21 Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 (edited) It was last posted on Tes as a Deputy Network Manager https://www.tes.com/jobs/vacancy/deputy-network-manager-surrey-1972921 at £32,625 - £36,021 per year So I'm guessing might have just been a copy/paste with the wrong/old pack from Ian as that advert attached seems to be the same as posted back in June 2022 here: https://www.tes.com/jobs/vacancy/assistant-network-manager-camberley-1639775 Steve Edited February 21, 2025 by Steve21
synaesthesia Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 That would explain the old head teacher's name being on the pack at least!
IanT Posted February 22, 2025 Author Posted February 22, 2025 Update, I was given the wrong information, the salary is £34,420 - £38,002 per annum Apologies. 1
Ditto Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 Update, I was given the wrong information, the salary is £34,420 - £38,002 per annum Apologies. Thanks for the correction. Could you confirm you work at the school and this is a role that reports to you.
IanT Posted February 22, 2025 Author Posted February 22, 2025 (edited) I’ll be starting in this role in May, and yes, it will be reporting to me. I’m conducting interviews via Teams next week. If you’re interested, feel free to send me a PM. Edited February 22, 2025 by IanT 1
Chuckster Posted May 19, 2025 Posted May 19, 2025 Given the location, and poor pay, you need to go back to your HT/HR and tell them it needs increasing to at the very minimum of 10k!
