I quit VM for these reasons: * appauling customer service * high prices for a mediocre service * traffic management * collusion with the music industry I'm now the proud owner of a 24mb/1.3mb ADSL2+ connection thanks to Be. It was dead easy to setup and get going. Everything happened when it was supposed to (I got text messages on my mobile keeping me up to date) and the install worked flawlessly once we self installed the router and ran through the simple software setup. rush_tech Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I'm looking at moving aswell. I think I need to get a BT line reconnected. Do anyone know weather you have to stay with BT for 12 months if you get a new line?

RabbieBurns Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I can concur that Be is great. Unfortunately not close enough to get the full whack, but 10/1.1 is good enough for me. Recently had to raise a ticket with support, and got txt message updates all the way through the process. They forums are active and staffed with support people, and theres even a support person in the Be IRC channel during office hours.

RabbieBurns Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 im using my old bt business hgv2700 or whatever it was as i thought it would make handling the 8x IPs a bit easier but that doesnt seem to be the case. Aslo i found the bebox would lose its connection every few hours or so. I think Im gonna try out my dg834gt with it soon.

I'm about 3km away from my nearest exchange I'm a similar distance to that and was on their 24meg service, was syncing at 7.5/1.3 so switched to their 8 meg service. At £14/month i'm not complaining. Geoff Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 If you ring up Be Sales and tell them where you are, they will tell you what speed you can expect. If you're too far away, like saundersmatt was, and you apply for the 24mbit service they usually recommend you move down to the 8mbit one.
contink Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Just wondering if the "Be Broadband" experience is still as positive as all the talk about Tiscali has me making the move from Nildram (who are owned by Tiscali). The fact that there's a higher upload speed with Be helps but my main concern is the costing which is coming down. Weird? Well not entirely, my experience of ISP's is that as they start dropping prices they drop quality too and a spiralling decline follows. Cynical? You betcha... Anyway, a follow up would be appreciated..
RabbieBurns Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 A couple of major national outages in the last couple of months which have lasted a couple of hours, but apart from that, its great. Truly unlimited, great support, active forum, IRC supoprt channel, etc etc. And for £22/m for the top package you cant really go wrong. I left BT halfway through my contract and last week managed to get BT to write off the remaining 6 month bill - RESULT As a wee side story - I cut through the main phone line into the house when I was trimming the hedge at the weekend, so decided to do some investigative work where it went etc. It took a crazy path before it got to the master socket, so I redid the main cable straight into the master socket (which is illegal I believe). Anyway, result was an increase from 9mb to 14mb and from 1mb up to 1.7mb up. edit: PS - if you want referred, pm me and itll get you free connection.

The previous problem a major routing problem that left 90% of websites unavailable. Both were fixed in a matter of hours. 1
EduTech Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I have had Be in the Past but unfortuntaly not living on my own we had to get rid as my mum wanted Virgin lol. but i can say i must be lucky to not have any problems with virgin. i have recently moved in a new house and there is no cable installed so Virgin are going to come out and install a Cable Line (dig up road etc) Free just so i can keep the service. But if i am honest i wish i had Be back lol. James.
