mikes Posted May 15, 2025 Posted May 15, 2025 I'd imagine it would be free (as long as you have a support contract!) - it's still Education Pro which they still sell after all, and they couldn't sell a broken product ! We enabled Manifest 2 as otherwise our Education Pro was showing as unsupported (but their browsing history still seemed to work) - I wonder about the new update breaking things as well more because apparently Manifest 3 is very difficult to develop for / functionality is a lot more restricted for developers (a bunch of popular extensions are just being deprecated now as developers can't replicate the same functionality in Manifest 3 - so we will see ! And yeah the extension broke in Windows 11 a year or two ago - you don't get the patches automatically you have to e-mail Impero and request they release the server patch. I would imagine they will then give the extension ID for the new v3 extension
tom_newton Posted May 15, 2025 Posted May 15, 2025 Yes, Mv3 is HARD. We had our filter agent out last July, but we have still been fixing edge cases right through until recently. Having said that, by coming to the party late, they've probably missed out on google taking something away, jumping through unpleasant hoops to mitigate that, and then google bringing it back! My advice would be to get this tested as soon as you possibly can 1

timbo343 Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 They are still working on 8.6.28 which will feature the new MV3 update.
timbo343 Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 Just had the email from Impero to say that the new update is available to support MV3.
CHiLL Posted June 10, 2025 Posted June 10, 2025 We had an email stating that early access is now available for Chromebooks, but no word on Windows clients yet. 1

AndyT2017 Posted June 24, 2025 Posted June 24, 2025 We've just been told that an MV3 extension for Chrome running on Windows should be available on 4th July.

timbo343 Posted July 17, 2025 Posted July 17, 2025 I spy a ChromeOS 8631 version of Impero on our Chromebooks which are connecting to our Impero EdPro server. Does anyone know if 8631 is for public release of Ed Pro? Update, yep, 8631 is showing in the Automatic Updates in Impero Server - released 14th July 2025.
Jawloms Posted August 5, 2025 Author Posted August 5, 2025 So we've been pushing out the old version of the Chrome extension, and now obviously we want to push out the new one. Is it as simple as just changing the address in the “Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions” policy, or do I need to create a whole new policy?
OLPTech Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 That’s all we did which worked, used the existing policy but changed the chrome extension ID to their new extension. 1
FragglePete Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 Just been doing this ourselves over the last couple of days. Initially, couldn't get thumbnails or screenshots from the Chromebooks. Had to be updated to Impero v8.6.32 as this was a known issue. Even then, the update on my desktop PC didn't include all the necessary files so had to do clean install of Impero (remove and re-install) before Thumbnails would show. looks like I need to check all our PCs that would normally be used to monitor Chromebooks by staff now!!! And, also noticed that within Chrome on Windows, the websites weren't being recording in a users 'recent history' within the Console. But, it would appear there is a bit of a lag before this gets updated. Fair play to Impero Support - they've been pretty responsive on this helping me get to the bottom of this. Pete
mikes Posted September 10, 2025 Posted September 10, 2025 Did they e-mail you saying the update is ready? all I have had is the e-mail in June about the Early Access but nothing since then confirming the final?? We have Chromebooks showing up still in Impero but I haven't checked to see if these are just lagging un-updated ones yet (to the new chromeos)
FragglePete Posted September 10, 2025 Posted September 10, 2025 I just had it on my radar to do over the Summer, so made a point of contacting them and getting the newer version released to us and went from there. Once I was happy it was all up and running, we then started the process of allowing all our Chromebooks to update to the latest ChromeOS they would go to. Pete
mikes Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Pushed it out but now our users are getting an Upgrade Browser notification when trying to search Google Images - and if I manually try and go to google.com it fails "re-directed you too many times" - but searching for a normal string in the address bar does return as a google search - am investigating further
Listerisonfire Posted October 22, 2025 Posted October 22, 2025 Hi Im struggling seeing my chrome books when deploy Impero by the guide, I have put my IP address of where the impero server is into a bookmark (I dont understand how that lets me see my Impero server) and i dont see it still has anyone got anything they had to do extra to see your devices?
synaesthesia Posted October 23, 2025 Posted October 23, 2025 Needs to be specifically in managed bookmarks which must also then be forced. I also have impero_server in DNS but I think that's only for windows clients. Also make sure you're definitely using the MV3 extension.
ITGuyNW Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I have the newer extension and it seems to take forever to block sites, something like 5-10 seconds before it wakes up. Anyone else experiencing this?
