Stop Migration to Outlook "New"

PSA for Microsoft 365 Apps : Microsoft are pushing out auto migrations from Outlook "Classic" to Outlook "New" starting January 2025.

 

There are registry keys/365 app policies you can put in place to disable the auto migration, along with hiding the "Try the new outlook" toggle.

 

Outlook Classic will remain in support until 2029

Why would you want to stop it? Its so much better than the old version!

I like it as it broke our Sage ordering system as it doesn't handle mailto message generation since it's just a webpage in effect

 

Only other down side is you cant favourite shared mailboxes/other mailboxes unless it's a group.

It's just as bad on the Mac side, Outlook for Mac side by side comparison in the screenshot . I keep Legacy outlook on, the new one is vulgar and makes my eyes bleed. Why is the button for 'New Email' so big and not uniform in the style of other buttons?

...I quite like the macOS version - I think it's better designed than the Windows client. I can understand why they made the 'new email' button so big, as it is the most often used button. The one gripe I had was the lack of a delay email feature, but they've since implemented it.

 

Now the new Windows App on mac....that's another story. What was up with the old Remote Desktop app?!?

I wish it had 2 versions, personal built into W11 and then Office 365/perpetual so that any personal mailboxes are left out of its interface.

 

Also the lack of being able to favourite folders in shared mailboxes is frustrating.

 

I dont dislike it, I just prefer the normal outlook for now.

 

Disabling the auto switch should still allow people to try it but it just means you wont have a sea of questions when it happens to your tenant automagically.

Do you still have to download non office attachments before you can open them? I remember having to do this with voicemail-to-email attachments to play them, rather than opening it directly like current/old Outlook can. (Yes I know it's downloading it somewhere, but the user experience is "click on the attachment and it opens")

Also can you re-organize inbox folders are you stuck with alphabetical order?

They were the biggest bugbears for me.

Just tested with a PDF and it showed inline so no need to download.

 

I can't re-order folders non alphabetically though, didn't even know that was possible previously

 

I have my folders in a hierarchy personally.
