There's a massive contingent of folk who love it. and then a smaller very vocal bunch of people who HATE it so much they'd rather see it fail and never have another shot at it being made again than see this one come to screen. It's about 10% of the book readership plus your usual internet trolls and incel-y types, but the make a lot of noise! Sounds like most other 'geeky' adaptations - Star Wars, Warhammer, LoTR etc. Sadly the internet has provided a platform for a very small, but very vocal, number of fans to vent their displeasure at TV adaptations that don't faithfully re-tell the books down to the last word. (And to be honest, even if it did I reckon you'd still find some who would complain). Haven't gotten round to watching WoT S3 yet (was going to be half-term's viewing, but got distracted ...), but the fact that it's being discontinued leaves a rather bad (and Netflix'y) taste. I thought Amazon was meant to be better than that (at least in terms of programmes not being randomly cancelled whilst being successful), but apparently no longer. Wonder how long Rings of Power has left then ... 🤣 1
Rob_D Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 Personally, I think it's the 2 year waits between seasons that kills these sort of shows. 3

Two year waits for eight epiosdes broadcast over five weeks are bloody frustrating. No arguements there! As for RoP. Amazon are apparently contracted to make five seasons for a total $2B expenditure! No matter how poor it is by comparison. anyway, head to savewot.com on a non-school connection and sign our petition. We're about to start fundraising for some stunts I've got in mind and need the signature count as high as possible to lend legitimacy.

Start mailing Jeff Bezos wheels from toy cars or similar or maybe Wagon Wheels - or watches. 1 1

I'm currently looking at billboard pricing in seven locations around the world (one for each spoke of the wheel). So we can do a whole day of billboards in cities moving east-west and finishing up outside appletv and sony tv headquarters in california. In the meantime, every time amazon or sony add a post to their socials hundreds of people are jumping on the comments to ask for more wot. it's glorious! 3
Ditto Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 Over 125,000 signatures and Gofundme has exceeded its target of $16,000 in 26 hours since launch. @ICTDirect_Dave, that's seriously impressive! If you ever fancy a new career, I'm sure most political parties would sign you up in a flash as their campaign manager - although perhaps your passion wouldn't be the same! I bought the first 3 books of the story for my 16 year old, but he is working through other stories. I've been holding off on watching the series until he has read the books, but that could be a few months away, so I might start without him! 1
ICTDirect_Dave Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 It's not all me by any stretch. There's a core team of us spread around the world. the time differences are great because it means the campaign literally never stops planning, promoting and pressuring! The brazilian fan group couldn't use gofundme so they crowsourced their own cash to pay for a billboard. That one's live in Times Square right now getting displayed for 15-20 seconds at 46 minutes past the hour. $18.4k in the fundraiser now so we're looking into sky banners to fly continuously over Sony and Apple TV HQs for an afternoon as an added bonus! As for the politics. I'd bloody love to. But I'd need to find my Josiah Bartlett first before I drop everything and switch careers. 1
Rob_D Posted June 6, 2025 Posted June 6, 2025 I get apple TV, but why Sony? Were they part of the original production? 1

Now Amazon are out due to financial differences, the majority of our pressure goes to Sony to show them that there's a wealth of viewers and fans out there and to Apple, because its a show unlike anything they currently have (and they've deep deep pockets). 1
