just for anyone with the issue that's not got this issue logged

30/10/2024 14:09:08 - Graham Ankin (Additional comments)Good morning,As advised in our previous update for this issue, we believe that the root cause of the problem has now been identified and testing on a potential fix remains underway.Whilst we are currently not in a position to offer a timeline for completion of this work, a further update will be provided to all cases linked to the Major Case record following the conclusion of this testing period.Kind regards,SIMS Support

Same here. It is an absolute nightmare and the slow response on ESS part is a joke.

I did get excited yesterday when I had a SOLUS3 upgrade notification for:

Update 'Patch 24004 [3.62.951-3.62.951] PRB18134 - When user runs Formative Attainment report from Programmes Of Study SIMS crash will occur. This patch resolves the issue.' has just arrived in the database.

When I went to apply it though, there was no trace of it anywhere. Does anyone else have this patch on their SOLUS3 or have they withdrawn it already?!

I would be lying if I said I was shocked! I bet soon the official ESS line will be to use Next Gen and not to use SIMS7.... lol

All I have is the Autumn update and the 2901 fileset. Found out the hard way this morning that it wouldn't let me install the fileset without first running the autumn update so had to kick everyone out of SIMS for an hour and run them both.

As a heads up for anyone in your school that might use/run the attendance time report it will now show as all 0 instead of time/durations so enjoy that!

ESS response at present: "oops, we gone done fcuked up".

This issue with registers not saving etc. Is the same being said for room changes? Do a room change and it either doesn't do it or reverts later?

I've not heard anyone shout about that but then again the user in my school that does that just gets on with it and is likely to just do it again if it doesn't work or keep doing it if it reverts.

When next in their direction I will ask if they have had any issues like you've described.

We’ve not seen this with rooming but with personnel we’ve change a staff members personal mobile number and email and it keeps reverting despite showing as saved and being correct when checked by colleagues later in the day. With this one is like something overnight is flipping it back again. It’s so strange

They're not staff-parents and you don't have Salamander do you?

We are pleased to advise that SIMS database patch 30262 is now available. This patch is designed to address issues that result in an increased frequency of deadlock errors occurring when working within various areas of SIMS.

Please note, this patch is only applicable to the SIMS Summer 2024 release. If the patch is applied and the school then upgrades to Autumn 2024 the changes will, unfortunately, not persist post-upgrade. A further patch to address the issue in the SIMS Autumn 2024 release is under development as a priority and will be issued to all affected customers once available.

It is worth noting that this patch will primarily address issues that result in a deadlock error presenting within the SIMS user application. Sites may continue to see deadlocks occurring within the SQL database when running deadlock reports via SQL Management Studio, however this is considered to be expected behaviour.

Patch 30262 has been released to your site via SOLUS3 and should be available within your Updated Library following a Get Updates check. To run this check please navigate to Settings | SOLUS3 | Updates and click the Get Updates button.

A further update will be provided as soon as the new patch for Autumn 2024 is made available.

Kind regards,

SIMS Support

We have been told by our SIMS support provider that a patch 30262 is now available. This is the email from SIMS support:-

You would have thought that they would include the fix in the Autumn update. Very strange.

I haven't applied this yet as it was only released 2 days ago, so wanted to wait a week or two to see if they pull the update for any reasons because of issues.

We do have Salamader for AD account creation. They are staff only - not parents - it is most strange.

Damn why does my sims support company not tell me that patch is released? If I wasn’t on various forums and facebook I wouldn’t know jack shit

It is only because we had a ticket open with them about the deadlock issues.

You can setup email alerts in Solus3 for when patches are made available.

So after reading this thread on Monday, I updated my ticket and we had the patch released to us.

We applied it that night (11/11) and have had a report through that it's still happening for a user..

Too early to say if it's made much of a difference, but we're logging the errors on our Ticketing System so hopefully by end of the week we'll know whether it has worked "enough"

Anyone know if there is an update on the ESS "major" deadlock issue?

Cant be bothered to get back in contact with them after the first debacle I had regarding this.

Posted (edited)

Comms seems to be a bit meh regarding this.

What we understood of the situation is:

Patch 30262 - To be applied prior to updating to SIMS Autumn release. This will "fix" the deadlocks going into the new release.

If the patch is not applied prior, a different / separate patch will need to be applied, that isn't yet released (this info was given 11/11).

Needless to say, we followed the guidance, applied the available 30262 patch 11/11 and updated on 18/11 and we've had numerous reports that deadlocks are still occurring :rolleyes2::rolleyes2:

My understanding was that the patch was for the summer release only, if you then update to autumn the issue would return.

The guidance we got was to hold of on updating until the patch was created for the autumn update and was made available.

So far it appears to have resolved it for us although its difficult to tell as people had stopped reporting it, I have asked a few people that had the issue frequently and none have said its happened recently.

This is my understanding too. I went to the ESS stand at the Schools and Academies show last Wednesday who said "what deadlock issue" and then demonstrated "Next Gen" which had lots of features available and said they are already on and for all schools. My shock (lol) when I opened Next Gen the next day to find that the features are all still in Beta and not released to all schools at all. :rolleyes2:

Yeah I applied the patch, and am not updating to autumn until they also fix that version.

The problem there is that without doing the Autumn update, you can't apply the new fileset needed for the census and I believe that has a deadline.
