Disaggregated/Inset days - what do you do?

Just a normal day for me.

Normal day.

 

Otherwise like most INSET for non-teaching staff, an utter waste of time otherwise.

 

If I'm owed TOIL I might take some that day, I might not. It's MY time earned to take when I want otherwise.

Normal day.. usually spend these days giving the IT suites a general tidy up/check equipment.

 

Usually end up leaving site early as site staff close up early on training days

Normal working day, although sometimes I can get away with getting contractors in or doing some disruptive work while the kids are out.

 

Very very rarely I might get dragged into the actual training, but usually only if it's obligatory safeguarding stuff.

Normal day. Catch up with workstation issues while the staff are locked into meeting areas.

We'll schedule server reboots, maybe some contractor work on the disaggregated day. It seems silly not to take advantage of no-one being here if we've got things that need doing outside the school day. Recently we've been trying to clear out and tidy all our storage spaces.

 

Regular Insets are normally on the first day(s) of term, so we're often finishing off holiday work, troubleshooting new installs that haven't survived being used "in anger", or doing the final office move that had to wait until the people were back in to decide where they were going to sit, ect.

 

On the first September inset, we have to join in most of the training sessions and there's a free lunch.

Normal day for us. But with Inset days normally being the first day back after a holiday, we tend to get a lot of minor issues raised (forgotten password type stuff) so we do end up tied to the office quite a bit on an Inset day. We have found though it's a good day to get things like PAT testing done (arranged by the site team) and also getting our Inventory sorted out as everyone tends to have devices in with them.

If your talking about an inset day where everyone else is not in as they had done evening sessions - we are very happy to be in with an empty(ish) school and use these to catch up on maintenance etc
