AshleyNicholas Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Good Morning, Seeing as MS have discontinued their Miracast dongles. Can I ask what other people are using in the education enviroment? Thank you Ashley 1
chazzy2501 Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 The Microsoft Display Adaptor(s) have 2 unique features, I've not seen on any other dongle. 1: it does this single job (no menus or multi function, no confusion) 2: it can run off any feeble 500ma usb A port (no external power)
AshleyNicholas Posted May 1, 2024 Author Posted May 1, 2024 This is my problem.. Trying to find something in that remit is proving difficult
GizmoIT Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 We have just installed Yealink RoomCast & Presentation Pod in our meeting rooms & main hall, work well and straight forward to setup. Supplied by AV Partsmaster.
DrCheese Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 We have Airtame in our conference & headteachers office. They are expensive, but they work really well.
RobFuller Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Microsoft Wireless Display adaptors are great but we've had high failure rate over the years. Very overkill spec wise but has been very solid in our critical areas (Hall, Head Off, Conference Room) AirServer Connect 3 (hardware)
tapb Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 I've found this (biased) but useful comparison between a range of different wireless mirroring solutions Compare - Vivi
Millgate_Victoria Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 I did ask our supply chain what they are seeing as available that they recommend could be a replacement for the Microsoft dongle, one suggested a vendor called J5create, who have this part code JVAW76 - ScreenCast 4K wireless display adapter, ios/android/macos/windows / chrome/ ipad compatible. 2

That's helpful. I've not seen those before. They're here along with others: Wireless Displays & Extenders – j5create Europe I'd be interested in any feedback from anyone that has used them.
AshleyNicholas Posted May 2, 2024 Author Posted May 2, 2024 I have tried the J5Create's and got to be honest find them very clunky. I think the problem being is I am spoilt by the MS WiDi's
Oaktech Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Sledgehammer to crack a wallnut but the the Ecler Veo SWC44 will cover all bases and then some. If you DM me I can give you the name of the UK distributor and you'll get a bit of discount because he's a mate of mine.

I think the problem being is I am spoilt by the MS WiDi's I think i depends on which model you buy. The JVAW76 let you set a custom background, which you make pretty identical to the Microsoft ones, and then you just connect with win + k and ignore all the other options. You just have to obscure the onboard SSID / Password with a white box to stop people messing around. https://www.edugeek.net/forums/av-multimedia-related/236942-microsoft-display-adapter-replacements.html
rogerdnixon Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Chromecast HD or 4K setup with Cast Moderator would be the solution is you are Google Workspace - pretty cheap and works well.
BenQ_Chris Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 Morning @AshleyNicholas, I don't know what screens/projectors you are using them with. But on the off chance they are more recent BenQ Interactive Displays, you may be interested to know that they now support P2P Miracast with touchback. If you would like to know more or have any questions just drop me a DM.
