Dos_Box Posted November 24, 2023 Author Posted November 24, 2023 Not much on that I want, but has been very handy for Xmas gifts so far!
CHiLL Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Forgive my ignorance, but I presume 'active support' means the latest OS updates (and therefore that app developers will continue to support it). Still, doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence, ending in less than 2 years (then it's pot luck or another new phone?)! I guess I've been spoilt with an iPhone, but the Google Play Store feels a bit like the Wild West (or a box of chocolates)... It's more OS upgrades and features for that version of Android will be developed until then, while security patches will still apply for longer. Developers will likely support several OS versions, so it's unlikely apps won't be supported for another 4/5 years after receiving the last OS update available to the phone. 1
Koldov Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 (edited) So I guess it's a good price if it really is half price... GOOGLE Pixel 7 - 128 GB, Snow £299.50 Save £299.50 But it's this bit that gets me: Was £599.00 (from 19/07/23 to 15/08/23) So there was maybe about a month when it was £599 and this means they can claim it is now half price! I saw the Braveheart 'HOLD!' Black Friday meme and thought that sounds about right when I looked on Camel for the price on Amazon... I get that it's still a fair whack off the average price, but the BF claim of a massive discount is only due to the ridiculous hike in the month before. Edited November 24, 2023 by Koldov
andy_b Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 So I guess it's a good price if it really is half price... GOOGLE Pixel 7 - 128 GB, Snow £299.50 Save £299.50 I would say £299 is a fair price, you could get it for £294 from Curry's a few days ago. So if you aren't in a rush it might be worth waiting. (I got a ridiculous deal when I bought mine, there was one day at Currys when they had it "on sale" for £499 and you could trade in pretty much any phone for £175. They price matched Amazon at the time to £429. Then I applied 6% discount with Sodexo vouchers and then Google had a offer for Free Pixel Buds Pro (worth about £150).
Koldov Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 Well, I guess as they say, 'all good things come to those who wait'... My OH came back from visiting a friend (who is emigrating) with an iPhone X (XR actually but fine for what I need). I wonder how long I can make this one last... They were also getting rid of their 'old, rubbish' computer (i7, 16GB and a GTX in a Corsair case)... I guess whilst technically correct compared to what's available these days, 'old' and 'rubbish' mean something else to those outside the small school educational IT support environment... One thing I did notice though was the single 2TB hard disk drive, which won't have helped their perception of it being 'slow'! However, I also noticed the same on a teacher's personal laptop (only a couple of years old)! SSDs have been a thing for a while right? So I'll have to start looking for something else to spend my Black Friday/Cyber Monday money on!
LeMarchand Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 Just had a load of price drop notifications on PS Store games. Worth checking your wishlists if you've not already got notifications set up.
mrbios Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 Ace, signed up to move to YouFibre broadband (900mbps) on the 17th of this month, already a saving of £2pm over my crappy 65mb plusnet connection....Noticed they had a black friday offer, and seeing as my service wasn't live yet, thought i'd try my luck. Now down to £24.99pm, saving £5pm on my old connection, no increases during the contract, and just the 835mbps faster connection
JoeRogue Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 I've done something similar! BT contract was coming up (500mb) and Hyperoptic offered me 1gb for £20 less a month. Phoned BT who said their best offer is same speed for £4 cheaper then what I was paying.....never had such an easy decision.

Dos_Box Posted November 28, 2023 Author Posted November 28, 2023 Well, so much for a weekend upgrade. When I ordered this they said it would be delivered by Friday. Now it's Dec the 15th. I've had this before and the date kept getting pushed back and back until they canceled the order. Scan have it in at the same price and they are not far down the road. Wondering whether I should go with that.

I dont order off amazon unless its prime / shipped / fulfilled by amazon as that generally means it's in an amazon warehouse with your name on it ready for next day delivery. I take it that MOBO is from a third party supplier?
LeMarchand Posted November 28, 2023 Posted November 28, 2023 Anyone who wants to go old school, Rogue Trooper Redux is currently 99p at the Playstation Store. https://store.playstation.com/en-gb/product/EP4529-CUSA08409_00-ROGUETROOPEREDUX/
Dan2025 Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Been on the hunt for some pupil laptops for a while, just not seen many decent deals. Had a quote I was holding on until Cybermonday for some lenovos, 340 per device + 33 warranty. Not great but not terrible for i5s, 8gb. On Cybermonday alternative supplier had the same model for 310 + warranty included free on top. Laptops turn up, 16gb variant.. win. The initial supplier was very eager to price match.. i didn't hear back from him..
