MS Office for home user - where to buy

So some family have been prepared this year and have bought some laptops already for Christmas however one bought it without office. Where is best place to buy office suite now as out the loop.

For home use? Probably Office 365 subscription online tbh. Especially if you can get a family pack if this is a close family unit.

I have just signed people up at home for £60 a year package from Microsoft but would OpenOffice do for majority of users unless you need more than Word & Excel?

They're grey-market sites. They'll be OEM, or some other technically not for resail type keys. I've used similar before and not had any problems.

I'd agree there should be no promoting illegal purchases, but are they really grey market? Wasn't there a EU ruling that stated it's entirely above board and legal. I'm more than happy to have the situation clarified.

There has been previous legal precedence for this in the UK

 

In November 2016, the Court of Appeal of England and Wales confirmed a ruling in the case of R v C and Others that the sale of grey goods can be met by criminal sanctions under section 92 of the UK Trade Marks Act 1994, with a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

Could this be spun off in to another thread before I comment further as it's not too relevant to the OPs original question. For the record I have never bought a key this way, I wouldn't encourage legal, or potentially illegal practices, but I am interested in the legal positions around this topic. For me the quoted legal precedence (and I've now read the ruling) doesn't make it clear cut - although I accept we may not get to that point as is the often the case with law.

Keep track on HotUKDeals.com for Microsoft 365 Family offers. A couple of weeks back, you could get a 15-month package (6 people) for £44 (and you can stack up to 3-years) with McAfee (which could recoup an extra few pounds back by selling on eBay!).

With OpenOffice/WPSOffice/Google Docs/Office Online/iCloud all available for free, I can't see why the vast majority of people would even need Office, unless there is a feature they absolutely need that they cannot find in any other Office suite.

If you're happy to use browser apps, but would rather stick with the MS/Office UI, then the Office 365 free version is fine (although I think Google has more storage on the free tier)

it's free... Thinking about it, I'm probably talking about the Office online you mentioned. Which seems pretty feature complete (at least based on what I used it for outside of work), just kinda' anemic on the storage side.
