Intranet - How do you do it?

Good morning,

We have an intranet built on the older version of iis, looking to redo this preferably with something a bit more techy/user friendly - what do you fine people use in your schools?

Free is best as we only need something VERY basic, first page is student how-tos and guides, staff page is accessible via AD account - links to sites, docs, IT & Site team ticketing system

For me, I'd look to put this into Sharepoint (assuming you're a Microsoft school of course), I'm currently starting to do something similar at our Trust with an Intranet page for each of our schools then a main Trust page as well.

if you are O365 then Sharepoint is your friend. You can create a quick and easy Intranet in no time.

Also using Sharepoint you can make it accessible externally without having to open ports etc..

We use Google Sites for this and make available for all users of our organisation (not public).

Still IIS here. Does what I need, but obviously if you're trying to reduce server footprint onsite it's not the best solution.

Ours is just a sharepoint portal now. Means staff can easily get on it from home as well.

 

We do still have some inhouse apps that are on IIS tho, but it's on our list to phase those out as soon as possible.

Ours is a custom thing, which is not a particularly suitable suggestion here, but we use Azure application proxy to make it available from home for staff. It will secure it behind their Azure AD accounts, and means that our little intranet site doesn't need to be web-facing.

I tried to make a sharepoint web page the other day, it was horrifyingly bad, can't add html, and the component I wanted to use (show a folder in sharepoint) didn't work, ended up writing html by hand, then copying and pasting the browser's render of it into Google Sites

 

But I'd use Wordpress or Mediawiki

IIS here. But like most people looking to move to Sharepoint - just finding the time to do it properly.

Google sites here. Very easy for other people to manage.

Google sites here, recently moved from a html file on a share. We have it set so it's open to anyone rather than anyone in the Trust as we use it for landing page after Wireless Authentication and staff don't need to be logged into their Google Account when they fire up a browser.

 

Only when they get to our Online Forms, handbook and other Google Sites do users need to log into their Google Account.

 

Mine is basically Icons of services that we use. 5 wide and broken down into Services accessible in and out of school then Services accessible in school only.
