Backing up our Gsuite Users

Hi,

 

We are looking at our options for backing up our GSuite envionment, mostly users (Email and GoogleDrive) and our shared Drives.

 

Costs seem to vary quite a lot.

 

I've looked at options from several places like Druva to CubeBackup.

Prices are very different from nearly £2000 for 40 users to under £100 for the same and no data limit.

 

 

What do you all use?

When we were backing up Google (we moved to Office 365 last year), we used a QNAP NAS with their built in Boxafe tool to back up our Google stuff. An onsite backup of our cloud stuff.

Synology also do one. It’s included with the hardware. Works great.

I am using Cubebackup and Wasabi for offsite backup and also Cubebackup to an internal hdd that is offline

I have a DS218+ left over from a project.. I was amazed to see an entire O365 backup software suite and easy instructions (including letters for teams access) right there. Local device, costs very little and can automate backups on a schedule and restore items back to the source with a few clicks. (also you can browse the files and download them if you want)

 

This also has a Gsuite tool which I'm sure is just as good.

 

The device was, I think £400 at the time but as it's original project had finished, mine was effectively free. (was a time machine backup for an old mac suite)

 

I may get bigger drives (2x2tb in a mirror)

 

But I get email reports every week from the DS218+ and I'm really chuffed as online backups are stupid money.

Synology 16TB Diskstation 220+ using their free Active Backup for Google Workspace / Office 365. Best £500 I think I have ever spent.

Wasabi is very cheap as the backup space. Something like £6 per TB per month.

CubeBackup is very cheap and Shared Drives are free. I'm tempted by them.

 

I do have a synology NAS but would need a lot more HD space than we currently have.

Yes they can.

Yes. With Boxafe on Qnap you could add as many as you wanted - as it does it by domain specifically, if you have different subdomains/domains on your Google account, you add each one individually.

Been using Backupify for a while here. I can't remember how the pricing compares to the competition, but we are including only the staff accounts in backups and not students (the cost difference is massive and the staff accounts are way more important).

 

We'd need a beast of a NAS to store it all on site.

Do the NAS options keep Google file formats in their native original format as I'm pretty sure the Synology Google backup converts everything to MS Office files and can break content in more complicated documents?

We use AFI backup at our Trust (28 sites). Works very well and allows end users to do self-service restores. Cost is reasonable and files are restored in their native format. Very easy to use and configure.
