Hello, I have just had a price from Dell for all in one computers - £500 - Core i5, 16GB RAM, 5 year NBD pro support plus warranty, which is considerably cheaper than our 'usual' AIO price.

I have never used Dell hardware or warranty before, can anyone comment on it's quality, durability and their service?

Thanks

I have used their Enterprise level kit (laptops, desktops, convertibles, servers and screens) on occasions, perfectly happy with it. Consumer kit not so much, but even then I’ve found them to survive alright if be a bit delicate and poorly designed.

Their business/corporate kit is alright too. Their optiplex AIOs are good - durable enough to last a while (we've got some with Windows 7 stickers on) and of a decent standard - the plastic back that you literally just rip off for toolless disassembly is actually really useful, repairs are usually simple. Warranty process is very fast - no real complaints besides support person chat taking a while.

Their enterprise level kit is pretty solid IME - although I suspect that's true of most of the tier one manufacturers We're a mostly Dell shop, so there are the advantages that brings familiarity and if there are issues, you tend to only have to solve them once. The key differentiator for me is their support. They always send someone to site quickly and they almost always fix it on the first visit.

Dell Optiplex, Latitude and Precision hardware is generally very good. Warranties are good and service is generally very quick when they go wrong. You get things like driver packs and good integrations into management systems like MECM. Things like BIOS settings and driver updates can be managed centrally and easily updated.

I'd avoid the Vostro and Inspiron lines, if only because they don't have that driver management

I've used and managed a lot of Dell kit over the years (desktops, laptops and servers) and have found them very reliable. Not the most exciting of machines, but solid and (usually) well designed. The next day warranties are very good too. In fact, apart from two incidents (both on XPS laptops!), I can't think of a time when they haven't worked as advertised.

Out of curiosity which model have they offered you?

I've generally been impressed with DELL hardware (both at work and at home).

One time we warranty claimed for a machine that arrived with a broken screen. They very promptly took the PC in for repair and sent us a replacement screen. It got sorted pretty quick once our account manager came back off holiday and I've not had any other problems.

Ideally you'll want one for a few days to test with your imaging/Intune/MDT environment, but it sounds like a good price. I tried to avoid AiO as we get through a few too many screens in a year for my liking, but if that rarely happens they could be a great deal.

We had a batch of Dell AIO's for our last classroom refresh in July last year ( Dell Optiplex 3240 21.5" Intel Core i5 All in One Refurbed grade A ).

Been very happy with them so far! Zero issues.

Have used Dell's for years no major issues, some sites had the AIO no issue, I personally wouldn't buy unless for a specific reason as I would like more life out of monitors than there dead when the PC is is as such.

I've always recommended a small form factor or micro mounted to the back of a monitor of my choice, but that's cheaper than what I'm paying for the Optiplex, so I guess you could argue the screen is free!

All Optiplex machines are supplied with drivers that are designed to be used with SCCM / WDS / MDT.

This is one of the reasons why I always use tier 1 suppliers for computers, because they provide monolithic driver packs to integrate into SCCM. Dell go one further by providing a plug-in for SCCM which downloads the driver, creates a package and distributes it to your DPs.

The Dell tools are great. Easy to update and manage BIOS settings. Something not possible with many lower tier brands.

We are nearly completely a dell house for end users now going exclusively Optiplex, Latitude and precision lines having moved from a "best price" from Dell, HP and Lenovo. We have been averaging at less than 1% failure rate over the last 3 years with the only main gripes being loud fans on laptops, and a non dell issue of Windows Modern standby, so unless things change dramatically, I think we are going to remain a Dell house.

Dell over the last few years (quite a few) years have dramatically improved the support systems. It was never terrible (apart from when using non enterprise kit in a workplace environment), but at least on the last few years, I have found them really easy to deal with. The tools and drivers are normally faultless, which is always a benefit, especially Command Update are brilliant, as is the preboot diagnostics that you can use if there is a fault too.

I've tended to shy away from AIOs though, partly down to the increased e-waste, as screens can last considerably longer than the standard lifecycle of a machine. We do however have a couple of the Dell optiplex Ultra's (although these seems to be stuck on 11th gen still, which makes me think this may be an EOL product line now), which offer great flexibility and look seamless in the reception area, although probably not within most corporate budgets, and even less likely in education.

Just out of curiosity, was this from Dell direct and via a framework or from a reseller? We thought we had a good price but this blows ours out of the water!

it turned out to be BS. We we were ready to place the order and the supplier suddenly couldn't get that price anymore from Dell - and it was now about £800 a unit.

On the whole I quite like the Dell kit. No issues really over the years, driver downloads I've always found to be really good from the dell site.
