ActivPanel - Randomly unfreezing and reveling confidential information to classroom

Hi

 

At least 2 of my teachers have reported that their ActivPanel's keep unfreezing randomly, without any button presses on the remote or front panel. I've seen this happen myself on one of the panels.

 

One of the panels is a AP4-75 and the other a AP7-65-02.

 

Has anybody else experienced this and do you have a solution?

Not experienced it, but my suspicious mind wonders if a pupil has IR on their phone or similar.

 

Any easy to say but hard to implement solution would be if the staff used "extend" rather than "duplicate".

Yes. Take the stolen remotes off the students that have them!

A part of me thought it could be a student using a remote but the time I witnessed it happen, there were no students in the room! :-/

It will be better to report this into Promethean Technical support, however.....here are some things to think about:

The freeze function on ActivPanels only works when there is an 'active' source connected....so if the computer turns the display off (for power management purposes) then the screen will unfreeze.

 

Additionally - PowerPoint takes full control over graphics in Windows and when you exit presentation mode it will briefly cut the displayed signal whilst it hands control back over to Windows....the freeze will drop if that happens. (to avoid that one yo unsold ensure the ActivPAnel is turned on and showing the computer image prior to starting powerpoint and presentation mode).

 

Whilst it may appear 'random' it really won't be, there will be a trigger for it.

Yep we have had this as well. Disabled PIRs auto wake up on the panel settings seemed to fix the issue (Or at least it hasn't been re-reported again in a while).

Hi @Reverend_Dan Would you mind explaining where I might find this setting? I had a quick look at at an AP7 and I couldn't see it anywhere obvious.

I have to admit the first thing I thought of was when I was in school and we used to use our casio watches to fiddle with all of the Tvs around the school (including mid lesson). It took the staff quite some time to cotton on to what was going on and then those watches were banned (instant detention etc).
