VLAN/Smoothwall/DHCP question
tdh1987 replied to Lebowski's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
What switches are you using? What are the VLAN IDs for the main network and your BYOD network? Thanks Tom -

Your uplink ports should be set at "tagged" not "untagged". Please adjust and try again -

Hi If you’ve dedicated an interface on your Smoothwall for this task then it should be “untagged” on your network switch port. I presume you’ve configured the BYOD SSID network to use the same VLAN and that your WAPs switch ports are configured as “tagged” so it can pass both VLANs Try that and see how you get on. Thanks Tom -
Hi At least 2 of my teachers have reported that their ActivPanel's keep unfreezing randomly, without any button presses on the remote or front panel. I've seen this happen myself on one of the panels. One of the panels is a AP4-75 and the other a AP7-65-02. Has anybody else experienced this and do you have a solution? Thanks Tom

Hi @timbo343 I've got a Lenovo 10e if you want to have a look? Currently unaware of its whereabouts, but should be able to track it down. Thanks Tom

Failover Cluster - Extremely Slow (CSV Block size?)
tdh1987 replied to tdh1987's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Hi We're using the H241 SAS controller. Since posting, I've updated the firmware from 5.52 to 7.00 and also updated the driver. Let's hope it improves performance -
Failover Cluster - Extremely Slow (CSV Block size?)
tdh1987 replied to tdh1987's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Hi Steve Are you referring to the cache size on the controller (MSA2040)? If so, that's 6144MB Thanks Tom -
I’m trying to find out why our failover cluster is so damn slow. I wonder if you would mind telling me what your cluster shared volume block size is and what your experience is like using your VMs? We have 2 x DL380 Gen9 (20 threads, 128GB, 300GB 10K etc), MSA2040 (12Gb SAS connectivity to the hosts), 12 x 1.2TB 10K SAS disks (RAID5) and it's appallingly slow. Trying to install cumulative updates is painful. I'm wondering if my block size is too small. Run these command in command prompt (admin) on one of your hosts: To find your CSV Path: C:\Windows\system32>Wmic volume get caption, blocksize, label BlockSize Caption Label 4096 C:\ 4096 D:\ Quorum 4096 C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ CSV01 (C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ is the path of our CSV) C:\Windows\system32>fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\ NTFS Volume Serial Number : 0xac6c3f2c6c3ef126 NTFS Version : 3.1 LFS Version : 2.0 Number Sectors : 0x0000000569538fff Total Clusters : 0x00000000ad2a71ff Free Clusters : 0x000000003298bd6e Total Reserved : 0x0000000000000400 Bytes Per Sector : 512 Bytes Per Physical Sector : 512 Bytes Per Cluster : 4096 Bytes Per FileRecord Segment : 1024 Clusters Per FileRecord Segment : 0 Mft Valid Data Length : 0x00000000000c0000 Mft Start Lcn : 0x00000000000c0000 Mft2 Start Lcn : 0x0000000000000002 Mft Zone Start : 0x00000000000c00c0 Mft Zone End : 0x00000000000cc840 Max Device Trim Extent Count : 1 Max Device Trim Byte Count : 0x40000000 Max Volume Trim Extent Count : 1 Max Volume Trim Byte Count : 0x40000000 Resource Manager Identifier : BEA1558E-B7FE-11E7-A948-E0071B6E23A1 Thanks guys Tom

Hi guys Due to the unprecedented rise in cyber attacks on the education sector I’ve decided to close off access to the Smoothwall VPN as I am unsure how secure it is. I've also closed the firewall rule (see below) The only entry point I'm aware of now is the rule that allows Smoothwall HQ to administer the box. What are others thoughts on the built-in VPN. Should it be left off, or are we happy there are few or no vulnerabilities to worry about? I'm referring to the OpenVPN client that tunnels in from an off-site laptop or desktop. Thanks Tom

I think is an issue with Sophos Endpoint Protection. I've performed a clean boot and and after several painful hours investigation. I strongly suspect the service that is responsible for the BSOD is 'Sophos System Protection'. I've logged a call with Sophos. Not sure where to go next!

Hi Today we've just started receiving BSODs on 5 of our 25 Latitude 3510s. We've been using them for about a month without issue. I fear the rest will follow over the coming days. The stop code: WIN32K_POWER_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT It occurs shortly after waking the laptop from sleep. There have been no recent driver or windows updates applied to the batch of 25. If you disable 'sleep' and use 'hibernate' instead everything runs as expected. We're using Windows 10 LTSC 2019 Version 1809. We've updated the BIOS, updated the Intel display driver and installed the latest Windows updates (from the web) to no avail. Is this an isolated incident, or is anybody else experiencing issues? Thanks Tom

Hi guys We are close to end of our lease agreement with United Carlton. We've had a great relationship with United Carlton, PaperCut and the Sharp MFDs they've supplied us over the years, however they were not competitive this time round. Konica and Kyocera have come in much much cheaper but I have very little experience of either. I would be really grateful if anyone could provide feedback (positive of negative) on their experiences with either Konica or Kyocera. We have been offered the following devices: Konica Bizhub C650i (reprographics colour) Bizhub PRO 1100 (reprographics mono) Bizhub C300i (follow me printers) Kyocera Kyocera Taskalfa 7353ci (reprographics colour) Kyocera Taskalfa 9003i (reprographics mono) Kyocera Taskalfa 3253ci (follow me printers) Thanks Tom

Coronavirus and Classroom Equipment Cleaning
tdh1987 replied to unmode's topic in How do you do....it?
Hi We're having exactly the same problem. We've been using some anti-bacterial wipes to clean our laptops and we've killed 3 keyboards in as many days. Did you come up with a solution? Thanks Tom -
Well I'll be damned. We're using LTSB 2016 1607 here! I wish the error messages were a little more descriptive. Thank you for your help!

Hi guys We have recently set up SCCM current branch at my site. I would like to be able to deploy the very latest Adobe Creative Cloud package (1.15.0.126) that we created but it won't work. The installation initiates and you can see various installers running in task manager, but it never completes. We've tried using both the .exe and .msi and the end result is the same. Has anybody managed to deploy Creative Cloud through SCCM CB? Thanks Tom

I'm currently negotiating with Switchshop for our R510's. The price is getting close to £300 each. I've just send my evaluation unit back. I was thoroughly impressed with it

I buy all my networking hardware from Switchshop They really do know what they're talking about and their prices fall below the box shifters too. They've always helped when I've needed it, even if it's a favour. They even gave me an Amazon Echo Dot at BETT last year!! My account manager is Nick Cox. Give him a call. Tom

Thank you for all your replies. I'm going to have a play with some of them next week. Especially Adobe Media Encoder.
