andy_b Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Hi As the named admin for XX Academy’s Wonde account, I wanted to let you know we have enabled the Data Recovery feature for you to activate inside your account (click here to login) helping you adhere to the DfE’s latest update to their Cyber Security Standards. Key features include: Backing up key MIS data Access data if systems go offline (i.e. parent contact details etc.) Compliance with DfE Cyber Security Standards (backing up copies of important data) Access fire registers if your systems are offline 🔥 If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch or click here for further information. https://www.wonde.com/data-recovery/ Over and above how it helps me with a Cloud MIS. I find the email poorly worded as it is a paid feature and I don't think that is made clear. :/ 4
Boredguy Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Yes it's not very clear in that e-mail, and it's only when you click the option within Wonde that it makes more sense. However I will say that for a legacy SIMS network it might be something to think about depending on the other backup options in place. Certainly might be something I'd recommend for our Primary schools who don't already have offsite cloud backups but only tape 1
TechMonkey Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Thanks for that, from the email it certainly looked like a feature they were allowing us to have, not a paid for extra. As you say, anyone with a Cloud based MIS will not really need this.
k-strider Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 i was thinking of recomending it for the primary we look after for their onsite SIMS we use progresso/cloud school so less sure but it does mean your MIS data is in two very separate places.
FragglePete Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I got this too, but if you click on your Wonde dashboard to activate it costs £180 pa. Still, could be seen as a good value for some. Pete
psydii Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 £180pa seems reasonable. Just trying to work out whether I am comfortable they have enough protections in place... also I'm suspicious that the DfE might pull some kind of stunt to get direct access to all the data... There seems to be a quite a chummy relationship there... Very tempted by it though. Great to have another option for recovery - with legacy infrastructure a catastrophic failure it could be days (if not weeks) before we've got bare metal ready to restore the system* 1
Boredguy Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Well considering if your already using Wonde, they have already slurped a lot of your data into their ecosystem ready to share with third parties, so it's just an additional step. At least they send you an encrypted CSV of your data if you need it post incident so you can open it up on a stand alone device for basic data access in the short term.
FragglePete Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I'm sure we already give out data for DfE via Wonde already. They are listed as an Approved Application for us anyway. Pete
Aprice Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Yep fell into their trap today as well, bit annoyed as the email made it sound like it was just ticking enable.
supportman Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Very cheap and nice little system for people on legacy MIS's like Sims...
jthompson Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Agreed that the email initially reads like it's a freebie that just needs enabling. £180pa for a CSV on demand. May be a no-brainer for plenty schools, but we already have a regime of encrypted offline exports on a weekly basis that are included in emergency grab bags.
KK20 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Ironically I didnt bother clicking the email, I responded to say "please dont enable, please disable and remove as I don't need it". I had a response back saying that it is an opt in paid feature so I only needed to activate if I needed it.
atcoates Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 A few of my schools clicked the link and were then surprised to see this as a costed option. Very sneaky IMO.
deano3693 Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 We use Arbor and I just have a Custom Report that exports all the Staff, Students and Medical date out to Google Sheets using Live Feed so the data is always up to date as an emergency backup if we ever can't access Arbor.
