Aircast to PC

One of our teachers want to be able to cast his personal ipad to his PC and has asked me to install the software to enable him to do this. I am concerned that a student could install the same software on their iphone and project anything onto the classroom screen. I therefore need to find a piece of software that will ask for a password before allowing connection - does anyone know if such a thing exists?

You need something like Airserver. You can set a password on Airserver itself and when you enable Airplay on the iDevice it asks for the password.

 

This does depend on the iPad being on the same network as the computer though, so if the iPad and computer are on different network segments, you'll have to put in some kind of mDNS forwarding system in. Most commercial wifi systems have that these days.

Yes, we have AirServer installed sitewide.

 

Only the staff network is configured to allow broadcast to the LAN so there's no problem with students broadcasting.

 

We also have the passcode appear on screen so teacher can't broadcast to the wrong room.

I would advise caution allowing content from a personal device to be displayed to the class - who knows what interests the teacher has and what photos they have on their iPad...

Is there no way that whatever is on the personal device cannot be replicated to a school managed device?? Freaking out a bit at the prospect of someone's personal device casting to the screen!

I've deployed Airserver to everyone's machine and enabled a passcode, very effective and doesn't cost a fortune.

I think this will be an idea that will die quite quickly, once the teacher thinks through all the issues.
