Just been offered (and accepted) a job. Moving from my post as network techie to network manager. Also moving from a school that's one of the ten worst in the country, averaging 7% A-C, to one that averages 100% and is private fee funded!

Bit of a step up but I'm sure I'll cope

I was a little sceptical about being between RM supporting the systems and the school - just wondering what it actually would be like in real life.

siuko, i was a little sceptical too, but at the very worst, BSF will be here in a year so i'll be in a fully managed service then. at least this way i will not be tupe'd or anything, and my input WILL be listened to (from what i was told).

They are a private partnership which has just been created. but no its nothing to do with bsf at all

the questions on the technical side were just about what my roles were, what duties, etc. what software id worked with regards imaging, any experience of online testing. experience with MIS software. also how you deal with very annoying staff, and what areas of my job i feel i specialise in (support, networking, repair etc).

this was done by the head of IT and by a support manager from RM.

the other interview by the head was more based around how i deal with people, what if i didnt like the job, why i want to leave where i am and stuff like that.

 

one of the questions to me was what if somebody asked you a problem and you didn't know the answer to it. i said that being honest is key, tell them you dont know, and that you will research the problem/solution. also never to give exact times on repairs/fixes and make sure staff are aware so you dont get in a trap of 'you said it would be ready'.
