Projector bulb suppliers.

Need a bulb for a very old Epson EMP-S4 (part ELPLP36).

 

The projector/bulb has only really lasted so long as it is in an ICT suite that only gets used a few times a day (and before the recent 'we have to start teaching computing a bit better' revelation... once or twice a week if that).

 

Who do you recommend getting a new compatible bulb from?

I've always used AVPartsmaster for replacement lamps and always go for the cheaper, compatible lamps without any issue. We only have two projectors left in school now though as we're using interactive flat panels now so I've not bought a lamp in a while.

+1 for PLFS. I've dealt with them for years and they've always been good. Plus, if you email them instead of using their website, they have a price guarantee where they will at least match the price from another supplier if you provide them with links. A quick Google search usually does it.

We always used to use Simply Lamps - now trading as Simply AVS. Great if you're after genuine or aftermarket lamps, will search the 4 corners of the earth to get what you need then probably find they had one in the back of the store cupboard all along and then get it to you as quick as you need it (even to the point they've sent us the lamps before they had the PO, mind you we did do a lot of business with them with we had lamped projectors!).

I think that projector is only 800x600 native resolution. Would you be better off replacing the whole thing? Something like an Epson EB-x49 would give much better image quality.

I'd agree with the others, it will be more cost effective to look at replacing that projector with a newer EB-X49 which will be more powerful that the old S4. Yes it's only £110 for an original bulb compared to £368 for the X49 (slightly cheaper for the X39 which is 3500 lumens compared to 3600 but both twice the power of the S4)

 

Depending on your existing mount, if it's not a universal one and the bolt patterns don't match up, a nice A4 sheet of 4mm Aluminium and some bolts can be used to mount it to an existing bracket (did that on around 30 Promethean brackets for the old Sanyo projectors)

 

Also those models have corner keystone adjustment so even if the projector is off centre compared to the old one, you can compensate without it being a terrible keystone.

I'll admit to keeping bulbs long after the projectors themselves had been scrapped, but I finally bit the bullet and cleared them out a couple of years ago when 99% of the classroom ones had been replaced. This is the last 'old' projector in the school (it has been going for at 11 years so far - but has never really had heavy use).

+1 for AV Partsmaster. They'll do the original lamp with compat housing.

Apologies not had chance to check until today.

 

Checked my lists and stores etc but I don't have any of those I'm afraid. Honestly thought we did but must be thinking of a previous place where we definitely did have some (even the EMP-S3).

 

Given that I would recommend saying it's too old and more economical to replace with a new brighter projector with better image quality.
