kennysarmy Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Apparently our website is too big! and the SWGfL want us to move to either: Microsoft® Windows® 2003 1 GB Web Space Microsoft® FrontPage® and FTP upload Plesk Control Panel ASP ASP.NET Database connection AWStats OR Linux 1 GB Web Space FTP upload Plesk Control Panel PHP Perl CGI MySQL AWStats Can anyone offer any advice as to which is the best to go for?

webman Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 What backend technology does your website use? Linux + Apache is generally quicker, more reliable and more secure than Windows + IIS in my opinion, so I would go with Linux given the choice.

There's nothing on there that I can see specifically Windows. Have a Linux package for the stability and speed and make sure it has the Frontpage extensions on. FP will never know the difference (IIRC, FP4 is Frontpage Express, as it then was...)

I don't doubt its the same with many other shared hosting providers though, too many users on each server, (and too many script kiddies killing the threads with endless loops). Interestingly though they had two incidents of MS SQL clusters downed at the begining of the year which is unusual.

kmount Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 The Diamond offers 2048MB. Pretty big site for 3.5GB!! Mind you, if you look at the reseller hosting, the bronze package comes with 4GB of space for £8.95 pcm for the linux one or a pound more for Windows.
