SIMS can't import KS2 data

I'm trying to import the KS2 results into SIMS using the CTF provided by the Primary Assessment Gateway. Initially the routine couldn't find the xml file although I had downloaded it. I contacted ESS who say it's because the filename is incorrect. They gave me a rough idea of the filename but said I should contact the DFE! I think that I have corrected that, however it now says Header information is missing, file can't be imported.

Has anyone managed to import their data and have an idea on what might be missing.

I am try to call the Gateway helpline but am stuck in a queue

I've, literally, just emailed the LA with the workaround I used yesterday.

 

Following up on the problems importing KS2 results, I thought I'd share the steps we took yesterday to correct them.

First of all, the CTF wasn't listed in the import screen due to the file name. I made a copy of the new file and gave it same name as the CTF containing the last set of results from 2019, i.e. [school's DFE code]_KS2_[school's DFE code]_001.xml (after renaming the old one, of course).

The file was now available to import, but SIMS reported a problem with the header fields. Comparing the current and old files, I noticed that the SupplierID field was a self-closing tag . I replaced this with the value from the 2019 file, i.e. TSO, and the results imported successfully.

Just double check the data imported by the CTF vs data available via CSV... many are reporting the CTFs generated by PrimaryAssessmentGateway also contain incorrect results for majority of students, and are awaiting a fix from Capita / STA.

It is all over the Data Managers groups on Facebook and I can confirm it is happening with our students too.

 

If you pull a CSV alongside the CTF you will see the CTF is reporting the Reading Scaled Score for all the Scaled Scores (Maths & GPS)

Oh, I didn't import it, just pulled it down to see what was going on. We don't use SIMS for data analysis so the CSV was all I needed.

Yep, had all the header errors etc. Simple solution to those for us (Bromcom) was to do an Internal Transfer CTF export for a single student, swap DataQualifier from OTH to KS2 within that file, remove entire CTFpupilData container and replace with the one from the STA-supplied file, and reimport.

 

Workaround varies from MIS to MIS depending how that MIS parses incoming CTFs.

The second error we had, which is also all over the forums, is that the destination school didn't match. Nothing to do with that closing supplier tag.

 

We know how to fix it, but advice on the forums is to wait until the correct file is published as even when correcting the schools and importing, the data was still wrong - which kinda matches what @Seb1780 mentioned.

That reminds me... KS3 schools getting the data for their new KS2 cohort have all the same issues and more...

Source School Invalid, Destination School Invalid, and also Year of result is wrong.

...but then do a find/replace for 2020 with 2022 (or whatever year content you'd prefer) before reimporting.

(If it makes life easier, run it all thru an XML Beautifier to get it formatted with indents / linebreaks)

 

 

The naming of the file looks only to be essential for specific MIS (ie: ones that scan a CTF-In folder - Bromcom couldn't care less about the structure of the filename for instance).

 

And... if as a KS3/4 school you haven't received details to login to PrimaryAssessmentGateway, then head to PAG website and do a forgot password request and enter the headteacher's email address (using same address as listed in GetInfoAboutSchools profile via DfE Sign-in - if that doesn't rock up, find who your main approver in DfE Sign-In is and use their address). Headteacher can then login and set you up as a user. From there it's just like using K2S / GIAP - copy/paste a list of UPNs in to download data (then do the above before importing).

 

If you have access to multiple KS3 schools' accounts (or just the one, but not the right one), you can still retrieve all the data you need as long as using my method above to replace the header with one containing correct data for your school. You don't have to be logged in as the KS3 school the data is necessarily for.

11/07/2022 at 14:00 - Issues Importing Key Stage 2 Results

 

We have been made aware of a small number of schools in Wales that are having errors when upgrading to the Summer (7.206) with some returning "Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression."

 

In this situation we have now released Patch 27421 to resolve this issue. Please contact your SIMS Support provider to obtain a copy of the patch.

 

11/07/2022 at 14:00 - Issues Importing Key Stage 2 Results

 

We have been made aware of a number of issues importing the Key Stage 2 results obtained from the Pupil Assessment Gateway into SIMS. The issues that have been raised surround but are not limited to; incorrect filenames, CTF version numbers and incorrect content within the downloaded files. We are currently liaising with colleagues at the DfE and Pupil Assessment Gateway to understand when there will likely be a resolution to these issues. We are aware that some users have amended the filenames or tried to fix the issues themselves in some other way. We strongly advise against schools attempting any solution that has not been ratified by the DfE or PAG as this has the potential of corrupting the file itself or creating further issues

 

11/07/2022 - Update - We have been advised by the team at the Pupil Assessment Gateway that a resolution to the issues faced last week with Key Stage 2 results should now be resolved. The latest files should now be available via the PAG for Key Stage 2 / Key Stage 3 providers.

I assume they mean the Primary Assessment Gateway, as opposed to Pupil Assessment Gateway.

Thanks for posting the update. Downloaded and imported KS2 straight away

There were pages and pages of the error "Result had missing result date so date of 01/06/2022 allocated". People might not want to print all of those!
