Best way to backup Google Chrome passwords?

Hi all,

 

What is the best way to backup a users Google Chrome passwords?

 

I can export the bookmarks but they want their saved passwords too as moving to a new laptop.

If they are signed in and"synched" in google Chrome when they sign-in on the new laptop and turn on "synch" the passwords would be there as well.

If they have been signing into the browser, then passwords will follow them as they're cloud synced.

Yup, as atcoates and paulkerton have said, as long they're signed into Chrome, their passwords will follow over.

Assuming none of the admin settings in the previous post apply to your environment, yes.

Which is something I would definitely not do, and always encourage users to sync

Load Chrome, click the three dots in the top right and select Settings

Now goto Autofill, select Passwords.

Scroll down to the top of the list of passwords, click the three little dots near the Add button and export them.

With the user signed into Chrome, check that they have the relevant bits enabled for sync in chrome://settings/syncSetup/advanced, since they may have sync turned on but with passwords being omitted.

 

Hadn't noticed the export option until pointed out by @Accura2k7. There doesn't appear to be an complimentary import option, though, which may swing things in favour of Chrome sync.

If doing this method you will notice that there is no option to import the passwords. Go to chrome://flags/ and enable the flag for 'Password import' and relaunch. You'll now see import when clicking the three dots near the Add button.

Importing on the other hand is a tiny bit trickier as the option isn't there to import.

This requires opening chrome:flags, search for "password import" and change the option for Password Import to Enabled. The option now appears under the aforementioned three dots menu.

Not that I've found - this is where the export comes in - export it from the unsigned account, import it into the signed in account using the methods above.
